GOP Rep. Chabot a "Useful Idiot" (my title)
Middle American News ^ | August 2006 | Elizabeth Howard

. . . Useful Idiot. In 1999, the Clinton Administration settled a “black farmer” lawsuit against the government by agreeing to a demonstrably corrupt settlement that has since cost taxpayers well over $1 billion for claims that were virtually all phony. (Harvest of Lies, a book detailing this fiasco, is available from Representative Government Press, see page 23.) That was not sufficient for Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH), who has held a series of shamelessly slanted hearings over the past two years to promote the idea that the government should pay out another $4 billion for over 70,000 mostly phony new claims (there are fewer than 30,000 black farmers in the U.S.). Chabot took this stand not because any injustice has been done, but because his district is 30 percent black and he thought he could con those constituents into voting for him. In June, he filed a bill that supposedly would open the lawsuit up for additional billions in payouts. Once he did its bidding, the National Black Farmers Association quickly damned Chabot as a “jerk” who “disrespected” black farmers, and demanded that the congressman “publicly apologize for the disrespect and trouble that he caused” the organization. The NBFA also linked its website to a site advocating the election of his Democratic opponent. Although too few pols will get the message, this demonstrates that selling out doesn’t always pay off . . . .

Chabot... Isn't he the GOP congressman who's a little "light in the loafers"?
Regardless, he is obviously a pandering scumbag. Nice work handling other people's money, Steve.

Dear JTR1888,

Welcome to FR!

1. Even your link www.manews.org doesn't take folks to this article.

2. If you've changed the title of the article (and it's hard to tell since the link doesn't really work), you should ask the Admin Moderator to have it changed to the original title. Threads must take the title of the articles posted. This permits effective searching on threads to avoid duplication.
