September 20, 2006 -- In a showdown of ideologies at the United Nations yesterday, Iran's hard-line leader took to the podium eight hours after President Bush - and went on a nutty tirade, blaming the United States for the world's problems and arguing that Israel has no right to exist. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also used his long-awaited moment on the world stage to claim Third World nations should be given more power on the 15-nation U.N. Security Council, which he alleged was a rubber-stamp for U.S. and Israeli "aggression and occupation."
U.S. and Israeli delegates snubbed the speech by leaving the General Assembly even before he began his 32-minute rant.
Even as he faces worldwide condemnation for pursuing nuclear weapons, Ahmadinejad claimed it was countries that currently have nuclear weapons - such as the United States - that pose real danger to other nations.
Ahmadinejad called his country's atomic program "transparent" and said it was "under the watchful eyes of IAEA inspectors" - a reference to the U.N. nuclear watchdog.
He gave no indication of any willingness to comply with the United Nations' call to halt uranium enrichment.

Irans Mahmoud Ahmadinejad makes a mockery of the world bodys peace mission last night as he addresses the United Nations.
The irony that he was never in any danger while he went off the rails is lost on him.
Such a man isn't really ready for prime-time.
Off the Rails, way , way off.
" TEHRAN LUNATIC SPREADS HIS VILE POISON IN NYC "
(I checked -- this is the *actual* headline from the NYP website!)
Kinda wish the headline writer would stop holding back and say what he/she really feels..... ;~)
The other comment is that he's standing there making a mockery of the UN. This is still possible? I should think that the UN is now constitutionally self-parodying, so detached from any adult reality that they simply live in their alternate universe unaware of anyone else and uninterested to meeting them.
Our President is the one who put them in their place, something they would have reacted to, had there remained any remnant of sanity among them.
Somebody needs to cut this fool down to size. Hey, I know of a nurse out West who is very hands on. Maybe we could call on her to squish this mental midget.
Why hasn't anyone in the media mentioned that he lied when he said that Iran was in compliance with the IAEA inspectors?
So, what is the Statute of Limitations on the kidnapping and holding of our US Embassy personnel for 444 days? That crime happened on US territory, and would be punishable in the United States.
The Nations of the World were offered a stark choice yesterday. They can hitch their wagon to the United States and join the march for freedom and progress, or they can let their resentment of the United States push them into the waiting arms of a madman.
Sadly, many nations will choose the latter.
Ike, I read that headline and I said, "This has got to be the Post!". There's no mistaking that New York flavor. LOL.
Amidababado obviously wasn't quite prepared for his UN debut. He was suppose to wear clown suit and wave a water pistol around while giving his laundry list tirade.
When he spoke this time, was he again bathed in light as everyone in the audience sat there transfixed?
LOL! That was my first thought too -- the NYPost anyway has taken the gloves off!
You will never see a headline like that in the New York Slimes!
The Headline alone was worth the Posting of the Article.
CNN thought so... they aired his whole speech. Jack Cafferty said Ahmadinejad got prime-time... while Bush spoke when nobody was home. Wolfie said he was quite interested in hearing what the man had to say... he smiled as he spoke.
The problem is not America's fault, not Israel, the problem is worldwide islam and nothing else. Jews have been in Israel for 3000 years.
This man was IN OUR COUNTRY and we didn't seize him???!?!??!?
Damn. You beat me to it.
