President Bushs policies in the Middle East are moving the world toward war, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday, maintaining that Iran was a peaceful nation that merely wanted to be left alone to stand on its [own] feet.
The U.S. government thinks that its still the period after World War II, Ahmadinejad said in an interview with Brian Williams, anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News, a mindset that led Bush to believe that he can rule, therefore, over the rest of the world.
But the world has changed, he said. Nations are awakened now. They want their rights equal rights, and fair ones. The time for world empires has ended. Story continues below ↓ advertisement
The diplomatic confrontation between Washington and Tehran dominated Tuesdays session of the United Nations, which was to hear from both presidents.
Ahmadinejad, who was to address the United Nations later in the day, did not attend Bushs address Tuesday afternoon. Bush likewise avoided seeing Ahmadinejad during his New York visit, in line with the U.S. policy not to engage with the Iranian government until Tehran abandoned its attempts to enrich uranium, which Washington believes is the first step toward Irans development of a nuclear weapon.
Why is the U.S. government so against our people? Ahmadinejad, speaking through a translator, asked in the interview with NBC News. They speak of war so easily, as if its on their daily agenda. We never speak of war.
Nuclear program called peaceful Ahmadinejad reiterated that Tehrans uranium enrichment was intended to support a peaceful nuclear power program.
We are against the atomic bomb, he said. We believe bombs are used only to kill people. And we are against killing people.
And he accused Bush of hiding behind the nuclear issue to

Stinks after all that hard work of posting, I know. ;-)
Speechless.
The Plump One validates his insignificance by interviewing a certified enemy of the state. This prick makes me ill: Matthews, not Nutjob.
Wasn't the interview by Brian Williams?
its surprising that chrissy mathews does not wear a towel wrapped on his head...he is the same caliber as the a00hole he interviewed...both are nothing more than heaping piles of shi-ites!!
Yeah, it was Williams; he threw some soft balls to the dictator.
Williams and his ilk think that people like you and I are just rubes and unintelligent and unsophisticated and wouldn't understand the "need" to "understand" people like Ahmadinejead. This disgusts me more than I can possibly convey in a post.
Sounds like the right course of action to me for an Iranian government hell bent on developing nuclear weapons and ignoring UN resolutions.
I NEVER watch that turd of a show, so I just assumed the chief turd would have been present for the interview. Must have been a shortage of glass shards for him to have crawled through, or he would have been there, I'm sure.
Matthews, now Williams, the producers, and all the network execs that knew of this scandalous, traitorous interview should all be hanged from the nearest bank of utility poles.
I'm torn between the hanging strategy and just shutting the hell up, and letting them continue to hang themselves. The least I can do, though, is ring their chimes, tomorrow morning, and let them know just how much they disgust me.
Ditto. I sent an e-mail last night. They need to hear from people outside their liberal elite echo chamber. That "interview" (more like an opportunity for propaganda) was absolutely disgusting.
I just sent my e-mail. Of course, I know they won't read it, and if they do, it will go in the "Ignorant Hillbilly" file.
I wish I could find a website that lists the advertisers of Nightly News, but if need be, I can force myself to watch, tonight. I intend to let all of them know of my displeasure, as well.
