Screen legends Peter OToole, Omar Sharif in all-star cast of One Night With The King
Every Jewish child knows who Queen Esther was, now it's time for entire world to know: On October 13, Gener8Xion Entertainments One Night With the King opens in over 850 theatres in select cities across the United States.
Starring silver screen legends Peter OToole and Omar Sharif, along with the renowned John Rhys-Davies (Lord of the Rings trilogy), Luke Goss (Blade II, ZigZag), John Noble (Lord of the Rings: Return of the King), Tommy Tiny Lister (Next Friday), James Callis (Bridget Jones Diary, Battlestar Galactica), Jonah Lotan (24, The Jacket) and Hollywood new-comer Tiffany Dupont, this impressive motion picture chronicles the amazing life of Esther, one of the Bibles most beloved and courageous heroes.
Based on the best-selling novel Hadassah: One Night With The King by Tommy Tenney and Mark Andrew Olsen, this dramatic big-screen adaptation chronicles a young womans rise from peasant to princess, her courageous role in the redemption of her people from destruction and death, and her winning of the love of the most powerful man in the kingdom - by seeking his heart rather than the riches of his kingdom.
One Night With The King is a story of divine destiny, explained the films producer Matthew Crouch, Chairman and CEO of Gener8Xion Entertainment. Hadassah was a poor, unknown peasant girl, an orphan, an outcast from a distant land, who went on to become queen of a powerful empire. Her poignant story proves that anyone, no matter their circumstances, can rise to greatness when guided by the hand of destiny.
The lush color and vigorous landscape seen throughout the movie can only be captured in a classic old-world setting, ripe with millennia of history, noted Crouch. One Night With The King is rich with mystical allure, suspense, intrigue, and political intrigue within unparalleled drama. Its an unforgettable love story set in a world of adventure and it appeals to people of all faiths.
One Night With The King was produced by Matthew and Laurie Crouch, and directed by Michael O. Sajbel. The screenplay was written by Stephan Blinn. Also produced by Richard J. Cook, Stephen Blinn and Lawrence Mortorff. Director of photography for the film was Steven Bernstein, A.S.C.
Gener8Xion Entertainment first won the acclaim of audiences and critics alike with 1999 runaway hit The Omega Code, named that years top limited release motion picture by Hollywoods Daily Variety.
I know that...but that's what the website said. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0430431/
Seems VERY strange, as we're talking about a difference of over 500 years.
Next they'll have a Roman Legion show up on the set..........

( . . . I know YOU know, Alouette, but others may not . . . .)
I hope it has some humor in it. Purim is a fun holiday and traditionally, performances of the story of Esther are full of comedy and jokes.
I stand corrected then...
the infowarrior
That would be interesting.
Interesting side note.....God is never mentioned in the book of Esther. I wonder if the movie will do the same?
Well, I, for one thank God for creating a woman this beautiful. She'll be a good Ester:

I heard about it some time ago. Wondered if anything came of it. Sure hope it's on the mark; this is one of my favorite books from the Bible.
:o)
IIRC, Samuel told King Saul to destroy the Amalekites, Saul didn't, and the kingdom was passed onto David. It's the Amalekites that can be traced back from Haman in the Book of Esther to the time of Samuel and even farther back to a certain time of Moses and back to Ishmael himself. So I'm curious if some of that history is going to be in the movie.
Amalek is a descendant of Esau, not Ishmael.
"A movie for such a time as this?"
You've read the book. Indeed a time like this.
Today's U.N. Iranisn guest has already spoken the evil mass murder decree. Who will be today's Queen Esther?
"I hope it has some humor in it. Purim is a fun holiday and traditionally, performances of the story of Esther are full of comedy and jokes."
I hope it's not. Making merry with plays and zaniness is for the time after the reversal in fortune is assured. The core of the book of Esther is dead serious and more sobering as a current cautionary tale with each passing year that the story is read.
"the elite of Hollywood will have nothing to to with it because it was made by a Christian."
Worse. Rhys-Davies made un PC remarks about Muslims taking over Europe.
Ah...Mr. Rhys-Davies is one of the old-school conservatives.
Beautiful picture, AnAmericanMother! I know from the Catholic forum that you always find the greatest pictures! Thanks!
He was also famous for his political cartoons in WWII.
"For example, why wouldn't the movie be released nearer to Purim?"
1. Time value of money. Money now vs. in the future.
2. Purim is March, 2007 --- butting up against Big Movie Releases, if release slot is delayed, especially now that "Summer" movies come out in May. (Only so many screens and fighting for screens is a big deal for little movies.)
3. The generally accepted principal is that family movies do better during the fall season.
4. Eligibility for awards in 2006, for a wider release and buzz with awards here.
It's the same strategy many small budget, high-quality movies take.
