Bush to send interrogation compromise to Hill (Bush throwing the RINOs a life raft)
MSNBC ^ | 9/18/2006 | AP

WASHINGTON - The White House told lawmakers it would send Congress a revised proposal late Monday for dealing with terrorism suspects as the number of GOP senators publicly opposing President Bush's initial plan continued to grow.

A Republican-led Senate committee last week defied Bush and approved terror-detainee legislation that Bush vowed to block. Sen. John Warner, normally a Bush supporter, pushed the measure through his Senate Armed Services Committee by a 15-9 vote.

John Ullyot, a spokesman for Warner, said the Virginia senator expected to receive another draft of the legislation. No details were immediately available.

According to an AP story tonight, so are a growing number of House Republicans.

Let me guess: "a growing number" means it went from three to four (thanks to Rohypnol).

I'm waiting for someone to ask Justice Kennedy, McCain, Powell, Graham, et. al. what they would define as reasonable interrogation methods.

Saying "Bush is wrong" is not an answer. If they're going to play at being Commander in Chief I want to hear their policies. I want to know specifically what they would allow.

Of course, no one in the MSM has the spine to ask them this.

Oh, she's far worse than just a sickening little twit; however, if I post what she actually is, I would get banned for the language.

If by "Republicans" you are refering to the likes of Heather Wilson? I didn't read the story but I suspect she's in the number you are quoting.

That particular Republican is in a tough re-election race leaning liberal. There are no "growing number"s of House Republicans on your side. There are only a few desperate politicians in liberal districts up for re-election. Seeking acceptance of your position by citing politicians dependent on Liberal votes, liberals that have proven they are irresponsible with our national security, does not a credible argument make.

The truth of the matter is that politicians like McCain don't give a damn about our security or protecting the terrorists that so concern you...they simply don't want to craft legislation they'll be on record with in event of a terrorist act or election cycle. In short, these politicians you admire are cowards.

They overplayed their hand this time, and I suspect what we'll discover is that the W.H. is sending "new" legislation basically to cover their hides.

although off topic for this thread - if no conservative emerges as a good candidate during the primaries, and it comes down to Rudy versus McCain - Rudy would make a far better president then McCain.

This entire torture issue is a liberal manifestation. Real torture is cutting of body parts, electric shock, starvation and isolation for months in a cold wet cell with rats.

That is torture.

Water boarding is a mind game. A trick! A sneaky but effective trick!

It's not torture. Never was.

Wow...movies as policy. Thank goodness you aren't in government.

And to be precise, the Supreme Court said the Geneva Conventions, if applied to terrorists, needed to be clarified in U.S. law which is exactly Bush's point.

They did not say they applied to terrorist in the Hamdi decision.

It's bad enough the MSM and the idiots in the left wing blogosphere make these mistakes of fact.

Just the thought of McCain as President with Powell in his cabinet is nauseating. I really really hope the Republicans in this nation WILL NOT be that negligent!

We didn't need "clarifications" to treat Japanese prisoners, even though the Japs attacked us out of the blue and we feared they were planning sabotage on the West Coast.

Keep it clean Senator Byrd

If any Republican gets the nod before McCain, McCain will end up running as an Independent handing the Hildabeast the win.

yes, but when you have 5 SCOTUS members who disagree, taking decisions of foreign courts into account, rational thought like that goes out the window.

Whom did we fight in WW II through Nam?

Because you obviously have NO idea, I'll tell you, we fought the armies of the Axis. Notice that word...ARMIES? The military attached to, trained by, funded by, dressed in military UNIFORMS, and sent out by NATIONS.

Today, we are fighting nonuniform wearing, no country/nation affiliated to/with, terrorists and gorillas.

If we weren't being undermined by the damned Dems and Dem judges, who are telling the president and the CIA and the FBI and those who are the higher ups in our military, what they may or may not do, we wouldn't need to have anything "clarified" by the Congress!
