WASHINGTON - The White House told lawmakers it would send Congress a revised proposal late Monday for dealing with terrorism suspects as the number of GOP senators publicly opposing President Bush's initial plan continued to grow.
A Republican-led Senate committee last week defied Bush and approved terror-detainee legislation that Bush vowed to block. Sen. John Warner, normally a Bush supporter, pushed the measure through his Senate Armed Services Committee by a 15-9 vote.
John Ullyot, a spokesman for Warner, said the Virginia senator expected to receive another draft of the legislation. No details were immediately available.

I'm inclined to agree with you!
But these R's are as dense as a door knob! I don't know if they would bow to a landslide! ;-/
I think 2 of them are just plain stubborn.
Mc Cain and Graham.
Doing nothing, the President plays right into the hands of the Democrats and this "gang of 8" RINO's who are already on record as being soft on terrorism. The same people peddling this phony piece of legislation are the same people who opposed the nuclear option on judicial nominees. They don't want to fight conservatives and they don't want to fight terrorism. Spineless bastards.
I hope you're right and the White House stands tough.
If he talked without the torture what is all this broken legs thing about and the continued reference to the 'torture' McCain suffered and the press continues to cite. If in fact, he suffered torture--did he talk? My point is that I think he did talk and thus the torture worked so when all those against torture say it doesn't work they should simply ask John McPain if it works or not. Who better to explain than someone that torture worked on.
Was he also tortured? Probably. Did he spill his guts under torture? Yep.
Go click on all of the links about McCain, that FREEPERS have supplied, and read them all.
He'll NEVER admit to what he's done, nor, for that matter, what games he is playing now. The man is pure scum!
That's exactly what she is; besides a well known liar.
Sadly, McCain and Colin Powell are so focused on their delusions of personal ambition that they are sacrificing the interests of the nation and the world...
I do remember all that. I know he is scum and I can't stand the guy. Actually, any military guy that lives/sucks off military honors I have little use for. The real heros don't believe they are. Take Bob Dole for instance--you never heard him whine or take bows. Bob Dole was Bob Dole and stood for how he lived his life. And Bob Dole was a war hero in my eyes. Funny we don't hear from him at all.
Bob Dole is a real war hero; so is George Herbert Walker Bush.
The likes of McCain and JFK, who makes a big todo over things that weren't heroic at all, are the ones who TALK the most and the loudest.
I know...can you believe these 2?
Well, as of today, there seems to be a compromise in the works.
Lord only knows what that will be.
Good grief. Every one of them? Entirely?
Kinda says it all here, doesn't it? I agree with the President on this one. Not that someone like President Bush would ever let our military personnel stand in the docket in The Hague, that rats nest of anti-Americanism.
But someone like Kerry or nearly any liberal would.
I have read pretty extensively on this, and most of the POW's say, without reservation, that...everyone breaks. There were one or two at the most, simply amazing men who did not, but nearly died in the process, and some did die in the process.
Man, you are on every post tonight and on every one you are taking the position of commie loving leftist, pinko, pussies. Go home and get a life.
The Geneva Convention does not apply to terrorists. I don't give a damn what any worthless judges say. I know history and I can read.
