RIVERSIDE An event billed as an educational forum about federal immigration law quickly became a rally against illegal immigration yesterday as speakers decried an invasion of illegal immigrants and warned a second Civil War is brewing.
Addressing a supportive crowd of about 30 at Spring Garden Park, speakers from the Federation for American Immigration Reform, Connecticut Citizens for Immigration Control and the Buchanan 2008 Campaign a grassroots effort to convince political pundit Pat Buchanan, who famously called for a wall to be built along the U.S.-Mexico border, to run for president blamed illegal immigrants for driving down wages and sucking up welfare.
The angriest rhetoric came from Miguel Cruz and Carmen Morales of You Don't Speak for Me, American Hispanic Voices Speaking Out Against Illegal Immigration, who condemned illegal immigrants for ineffectual schools, debasing U.S. culture and bastardizing the English language.
Go back to where you came from, Morales said. You are not citizens. You don't belong here.
Standing in a pavilion draped with American flags, Cruz was even more strident, calling illegal immigrants murderers, rapists, child molesters, gang members and illiterate carriers of disease.
To those who disagree, Cruz said, You are racists; you are traitors because you hate America. To some of us, it smells like there is a civil war approaching and this American is ready.
I haven't seen such hate since the March on Selma, said Dave Verduin, the president of a coalition of local business owners and landlords opposed to Riverside's recently enacted anti-illegal immigrant ordinance. I came because they said it would be a non-partisan forum. This is misinformation; they said it would be educational.
Anyone who disagreed with Travis and company's preferred solution (i.e., build a 2,100-mile wall, station most the US military along it, shoot to kill anyone attempting to get past it, and then conduct a house-to-house search for every last illegal immigrant in this country), or who even pointed out the formidable logistics problems associated with same, was branded a "quisling traitor."
Still trying to win friends, huh?
I have to say you are a master at spin; you and he were NOT discussing the same people.
You sneering refer to anybody who doesn't march lock step with you as a liberal; Jim doesn't do that; he recognizes that the vast majority of us haven't been brainedwashed and can make up our own minds about issues.
And, no, you do NOT have the market cornered on every single conservative issue. Most of us disagree with your "brand" of conseravitism.
He was banned before you even got here; you serial posters need to return to base for more instruction.
My lord, did a mass call for "extras" go out to run to FR and defend big bad Travis?????
I have no idea who exactly Travis considered quislings, he is sure not here to tell us either. I do think he made it real clear in this particular post who he was referring to.
Quislings, (who set us up for civil war out of their greed for illegal alien wages)
I don't see anything there about supporters of President Bush- seems plain to me he was referring to those who support, promote, encourage, and enable illegal immigration. I could be wrong though- but I don't see there what you do.
LOL, classic stuff. BTW, you are doing a fine job of clearing the air. Some people get too hung up on one issue. It is good to have activists on issues who really care about an issue, but they must also understand not all conservatives view their issue from the same perspective.
I'm sure we'll EVentually figure out the "cagey" Americans who set this in motion. God bless!
Good guess.
Gawd, how boring can your life be if you have to sit on one web site and scan another one, hoping to be able to send out some "sleepers" to defend yourself!
Nobody NOBODY here does that. That's just something you all say to each other to try to convince yourselves you're "real, true" conservatives.
I have paid scant attention to this thread since last night when a poster sent me FR mail advising me that my name came up without being pinged.
I am more interested in EV's failed attempt to get Jim to agree with him.
EV should be embarrassed for whining in public and for getting summarily spanked.
The Loonies have a thread going about this discussion.
BSF has already posrted Jim's post to you and nobody else's opinion counts with regard to Travis, except Jim's.
You are beating a dead horse.
I have no idea why you felt the need to post this sarcastic comment to me, but I hope you feel better now.
I was not late to this thread and I did see Jim Robinson's post. Mr. Robinson has every right to think however he wants to, as do I and all Americans. I am greatful that Mr. Robinson has this forum where we can discuss and debate issues, and I especially thank him for his service to this country in the military.
I do not always agree with Mr Robinson and I hope that is not a criteria for posting here. I have never seen a post by him where he expected everyone to agree with him on every issue. I have also never seen him post a sarcastic comment to anyone simply because he did not agree with them. I only see that attitude in a few freepers like yourself.
This is Mr. Robinson's site and he is free to ban anyone he wishes to ban, and for whatever reason he wishes to do so.
I do not agree with the characterizations made of posts by Travis, but you and anyone else is free to disagree.
Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner.
Travis & Company think that if you don't agree with their solutions to illegal immigration (Basically turning the United States into East Germany) then you support illegal immigration and they'd accuse you of being a "quisling."
And here I was wondering if a mass call went out for people to bash Travis had been sent out on this thread. The supporters of Travis were not the first to bring up his name on this thread.
One person said something about Travis last night; Jim Robinson posted THE FACTS, including the little tidbit that Travis had referred to BushBots as quislings for you -- a fact you either missed or ignored, despite being linked to it.
Pretty telling, if you ask me.
Travis doesn't belong here anymore; I'm sure you know where he is; if you dislike the way this forum operates, you can always join him there, if you haven't already.
I have had no contact from Travis since the day he was banned from this site. He did not ever try to tell me what to say or do when he was here and he certainly hasn't since he left.
BTW, what brought you to this thread?? Did someone ping you here for support?
It doesn't matter who of us disagrees or agrees; the ONLY opinion on this matter that concerns us is Jim's.
I'd say the discussion is over.
Once again showing your brillant deduction power, you obviously missed my post #29; I was on this thread LAST NIGHT and got a ping back to it.
And I wasn't discussing Travis McGee.
Now your turn: why are YOU on this thread? Did somebody ping you to defend Travis.
