RIVERSIDE An event billed as an educational forum about federal immigration law quickly became a rally against illegal immigration yesterday as speakers decried an invasion of illegal immigrants and warned a second Civil War is brewing.
Addressing a supportive crowd of about 30 at Spring Garden Park, speakers from the Federation for American Immigration Reform, Connecticut Citizens for Immigration Control and the Buchanan 2008 Campaign a grassroots effort to convince political pundit Pat Buchanan, who famously called for a wall to be built along the U.S.-Mexico border, to run for president blamed illegal immigrants for driving down wages and sucking up welfare.
The angriest rhetoric came from Miguel Cruz and Carmen Morales of You Don't Speak for Me, American Hispanic Voices Speaking Out Against Illegal Immigration, who condemned illegal immigrants for ineffectual schools, debasing U.S. culture and bastardizing the English language.
Go back to where you came from, Morales said. You are not citizens. You don't belong here.
Standing in a pavilion draped with American flags, Cruz was even more strident, calling illegal immigrants murderers, rapists, child molesters, gang members and illiterate carriers of disease.
To those who disagree, Cruz said, You are racists; you are traitors because you hate America. To some of us, it smells like there is a civil war approaching and this American is ready.
I haven't seen such hate since the March on Selma, said Dave Verduin, the president of a coalition of local business owners and landlords opposed to Riverside's recently enacted anti-illegal immigrant ordinance. I came because they said it would be a non-partisan forum. This is misinformation; they said it would be educational.
When it's over, I hope that thousands of traitor Quislings, (who set us up for civil war out of their greed for illegal alien wages), are hung from trees.
He had spent the previous two years referring to anyone who supported Bush as "traitor Quislings."
Right. And I disagreed with him.
Right. That's the part everyone has conveniently ignored. That's what got Travis banned. Everyone at the time knew what he meant by that phrase.
Everybody can see the exchange. You were nailed.
I don't care. Jim nailed your hide to the wall.
Don't let him turn this into a flame war. He so wants to have this thread pulled so that others won't see Jim's posts to him.
I claimed that coexer was lying when she said that Travis WANTED a civil war, not you.
No offense intended, but judging by past posts of your regarding the border, I tend to write off any conclusions you come to on this particular topic.
Have you read Travis' first book?
You sound as anti-American as ever! Some things just never change! Are you ever going to stand up for AMERICANS, or will you continue to encourage the destruction of America through illegal immigration? What is it with you people? Are you an illegal?
Has it ever occurred to you that there are thousands of illegal terrorists crossing the border because they want to kill Americans? You better pray that they don't kill some of your loved ones. If they do, then you're going to have to deal with their deaths knowing that you supported allowing terrorists to cross with the other illegals, because they're just as illegal as Mexicans or people from other third world countries are. I hope you can deal with that knowledge, because it's going to happen! Not to worry, the day after another terrorist attack happens, I'm going to be here to blame you. That is, of course, if you're still alive. LOL!
I've read excerpts. Travis meant for his story to be a warning of something he would not like to see. Use some logic here. If he really wanted to see a civil war, why did he spend so much time here on FR arguing against illegal immigration? Wouldn''t logic dictate that he'd want to speed the process up and therefore join you guys in cheering on the illegals?
Second of all, Travis is a Navy SEAL and has sworn to defend this nation, something I'm reasonably sure you've never done. I'll take his word over yours on this one.
I'm definitely not a "chick".
I must have just assumed due to your blind support of all things Bush. Male bushbots give me the creeps.
In other words, you haven't actually read it, but you feel free to pontificate at length about what he really meant, and how we should ignore what he really wrote.
Use some logic here. If he really wanted to see a civil war, why did he spend so much time here on FR arguing against illegal immigration?
To prime the pump for his next book--if you search the archives, you'll find out that he was all over the 2A threads in the years leading up to it. It's called "advertising."
Second of all, Travis is a Navy SEAL and has sworn to defend this nation, something I'm reasonably sure you've never done.
US Army, 1966-67, Long Binh, Republic of Vietnam. I will cheerfully accept your apology.
As for Travis being a Navy SEAL--so was Richard Marcinko, and he wound up doing prison time for defrauding the government. SEALness does not guarantee righteousness.
Why would I want to do that? It's highly interesting to see how many self-identify as the folks he and I were discussing.
Travis was not promoting civil war. He felt a civil war was possible and even probable. I don't agree with everything Travis posted on FR, as I don't agree with a lot of things that are posted here. To say he was promoting a civil war is not accurate.
I do agree that "IF" there was a civil war it would be a horror show.
I do agree I would regret it coming.
I do agree it [division caused by illegal immigration] should have never come to this.
I do agree that those who promote, support, encourage, and enable illegal immigration are the cause of the present immigration problems and if the current issues do indeed lead to a civil war in the future over immigration the blame will be directly on those people.
I do agree that those people described above are traitors to this country. I do agree that they are thinking of greed, and their own benefits and not of the welfare of the United States by their support of illegal immigration. (I also believe there are those that are ignorant of the truth of the issue and if they knew the truth would not support illegal immigration- I do not put those ignorant of the truth in the same class as those who know they are hurting this country and are supporting illegal immigration anyway for their own benefit)
I would only agree to the above mentioned supporters of illegal immigration being hung from trees only if a court of legal authority sentenced them to such consequences.
I would not be upset if the above happened as a consequence of a possible civil war in the future to be brought about by illegal immigration.
I, like Travis live on the Mexican border and not only deal directly with the issues caused by illegal immigration daily, I also hear the same kind of talk about illegals and how to deal with the situation and what is right and wrong. I also hear people talk of a future civil war caused by illegal immigration and the failure to deal with it.
I understood where Travis was coming from when he posted such things. Life is very different on the border than in most of the US. I did not always agree with Travis' take on things, but usually it was a matter of how he worded things- not the basic ideas or logic of what he was saying.
I do not promote civil war over the immigration issue or any other issue- but I don't think Travis did either.
I would not normally attempt to speak for another poster, but Travis is not allowed to post in this forum, however it seems people are allowed to bash him here- knowing he cannot defend himself.
It's a freaking fiction book for crying out loud! You're the ONLY person I've ever seem claim that this book is some warped fantasy of Travis' intentions. That said, I'm getting off of this thread. It's Monday, the Jets lost, and I'm in a pissed off mood. I don't want to post something I'll regret.
It has been my opinion, formed over the years, that Mr. McGee is a FReeper of utmost integrity and honesty; a true patriot.
You demean yourself with comments like that.
I know I'm late to the party but I just wanted to tell you I agree with what you have said on this thread. One of the reasons I haven't posted in a long time is because of exactly the points you have raised. Didn't seem to be a point. Anyway, you have my support, for what it's worth.
