Bush and Rove are not idiots and I can not speak to Rove's intentions in speaking to La Raza, but I will tell you that in general, Mexicans are Christians, principled, family oriented, and hard working people. If they take the time to go through the legal process of becoming American citizens, they will be vastly conservative and Rove knows that in time the Republicans will reap great benefits.

People are right to blame Carter and Clinton for the border mess up to a point. And that point is that they aren't the President any more. Nor have they been for many years.
Bush inherited the illegal immigration problem, that is true. But, he wanted to be the President and part of that job is to protect the borders. I voted for him twice and would again if possible. He's done the right things for the country and we are much better for his leadership. Gore or Kerry would have been a disaster! But, where is he on THIS important issue???
He is in a position of leadership and can do more than he is, from speaking out from the bully pulpit to writing an Executive Order and many other possibilities in between. But he doesn't. Americans of all persuasions want something done, especially since 9/11. He would have support if he got serious about it.
The thing is, just because I like the man, respect the office and am his supporter, doesn't make me a "yes-man" who turns a blind eye to a serious problem.
Tell you what. Shoot the messengers for having the audacity to criticize the President, a fellow republican. Ban Buchanan. Ridicule Buchanan, Tancredo and all of those who want something done about our open border and illegal immigration. But, the border is still wide open and illegal immigration is still a problem.

The ones in question are NOT taking the legal route to citizenship. That's why they are called "illegal aliens". They are DEMANDING it on a plate along with welfare. What makes you think that people from Marxist Mexico would be "vastly conservative", anyway? The Republicans will lose their base as well as hand millions of votes to the Democrats. This is what will happen in this place we call "reality".
