Please, explain, Sen. McCain
Washington Times ^ | 9/19/06

President Bush wasted no time yesterday responding to the Senate Armed Services Committee's passage of legislation that could damage the ability of intelligence agencies to obtain information from terrorist detainees. On Thursday, four Republicans [on] the Senate Armed Services Committee -- John Warner and John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Susan Collins -- joined committee Democrats in passing flawed legislation governing detainee treatment that fails to respond to Bush's critical request. The lawmakers must clarify what interrogators can and cannot do when interrogating suspected jihadists.

... ...it would be difficult to imagine a more irresponsible decision... American forces captured Abu Zubaydah -- a top bin laden aide who ran terrorist camps in which some of the September 11 hijackers trained -- several months after the attacks. ... Zubaydah refused to cooperate with U.S. interrogators. So, the CIA, used an unspecified "alternative" interrogation methods approved by Justice Department lawyers. Eventually, Zubaydah cracked and provided information that enabled the military to prevent an al Qaeda attack inside the United States.

Zubaydah also provided information that lead to the capture of Khalid Sheikh Mohammad and Ramzi Binalshibh, who helped organize the September 11 attacks. They also led authorities to the capture of the leader al Qaeda's south Asian affiliate, Hambali, and 17 operatives. ... Hambali acknowledged that terrorists were being prepared for new attacks on the U.S. , probably using airplanes,...

But the concerns expressed by Bush and CIA Director Michael Hayden have failed to budge McCain. On Thursday, the Arizona Republican disparaged Hayden's legitimate concerns about the Senate bill as an attempt to "protect his reputation at the risk of America's reputation." It's a cheap shot. McCain should explain why he is endangering a vital interrogation program that has saved many American lives.

That would be a truly nightmarish scenario for the citizens of this nation. There would be more of a war on conservatives than a war on terror should this happen. Keeping my fingers crossed.

he has already been censured by the ethics committee as a member of the Keating Five

And let us not forget hypocrite of the worst kind.

Mr. Pure At Heart and Co-Sponsor of the McCain-Feingold outrage is still using corporate jets to go to fundraisers and reimbursing them for 1st class fare, like that really pays for operating a private jet.

I can't think of anything he won't do to advance his ambitions. He's a dangerous, unstable, and venal man.

"He plays both ends against the middle to further his own ambition"

Well, I hope he runs for president. We can play both ends against this media darling peacock also. There will be so much money raised to defeat him a new futures market will appear. And tell J.D. Hayworth that America wants him to be a Senator. Being a Senator means hanging around D.C. a lot, and he doesn't like that. Tell him that America needs him to do what he doesn't like.

McCain is a nut. He was a nut 6 years ago and he's still a nut. His attempt to move terrorist scum onto an equal footing with lawful combatants is simply a disgrace. I sincerely thank all those who voted for Bush in the 2000 primary over McCain and hope all those that voted for John McCain are doing penance for that vote. The guy has many problems not the least of which is his propensity to place grudges before security.

Good reminder for the board!

I'm too aware.
I served during 'Nam, but they didn't send any of us Nuke Weapons Specialists over there.

McCain is no different than Kerry. Both used their time in the military as pseudo badges of honor. They both I believe secretly hate the military, were cowards while they served (Kerry got shot in the butt with rice pellets hiding I heard while McCain blabbed everything after some warm up torture!), and both used this for movies - McCain the MSM little darling had one specially made for him and Kerry brought his own camera to shoot film of himself with a gun. Speilberg later edited Kerry's footage for the 2004 campaign. These are the type of girlie men we can't ever allow in the White House.

Agreed - I would bet many of the moderate Dims would vote for McCain over someone like the Breck Girl or Shrillery, thus splitting the Dim vote as well.

I served in Europe when the Soviet Union collapsed. ETA blew up my favorite restaurant in Alcala. Very attractive women holding a communist party rally in the plaza mayor in Madrid. Between Spain and France, the Basques were carrying loaded shotguns around on the streets of Pamplona. Stonehenge got fenced off. Bums urinating in the elevators at the Eiffel Tower. Punks getting loaded on the SeaLink ferrys between Britain and the continent. Those ships are the size of a destroyer and have every sordid thing you can think of. And people hanging their clothes on the bushes around Loch Ness to sprain an ankle on the glacial rocks before going straight down. And spend $20 for a beer in Geneva to enjoy the water spout in the lake.

We screwed up 9 little countries. We all deserve the Nobel Prize for excellence:)

We learned - people are all alike. And women speak 4 languages in Switzerland.

A few months ago, two American soldiers were captured in Iraq.

They were sliced to death with machetes, photographed, and their bodies displayed on the Internet.

"Tell me, are there any men left in Washington, or are they all cowards?"
