Please, explain, Sen. McCain
Washington Times ^ | 9/19/06

President Bush wasted no time yesterday responding to the Senate Armed Services Committee's passage of legislation that could damage the ability of intelligence agencies to obtain information from terrorist detainees. On Thursday, four Republicans [on] the Senate Armed Services Committee -- John Warner and John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Susan Collins -- joined committee Democrats in passing flawed legislation governing detainee treatment that fails to respond to Bush's critical request. The lawmakers must clarify what interrogators can and cannot do when interrogating suspected jihadists.

... ...it would be difficult to imagine a more irresponsible decision... American forces captured Abu Zubaydah -- a top bin laden aide who ran terrorist camps in which some of the September 11 hijackers trained -- several months after the attacks. ... Zubaydah refused to cooperate with U.S. interrogators. So, the CIA, used an unspecified "alternative" interrogation methods approved by Justice Department lawyers. Eventually, Zubaydah cracked and provided information that enabled the military to prevent an al Qaeda attack inside the United States.

Zubaydah also provided information that lead to the capture of Khalid Sheikh Mohammad and Ramzi Binalshibh, who helped organize the September 11 attacks. They also led authorities to the capture of the leader al Qaeda's south Asian affiliate, Hambali, and 17 operatives. ... Hambali acknowledged that terrorists were being prepared for new attacks on the U.S. , probably using airplanes,...

But the concerns expressed by Bush and CIA Director Michael Hayden have failed to budge McCain. On Thursday, the Arizona Republican disparaged Hayden's legitimate concerns about the Senate bill as an attempt to "protect his reputation at the risk of America's reputation." It's a cheap shot. McCain should explain why he is endangering a vital interrogation program that has saved many American lives.

I hope McCain, in particular, is present for the next Islamic attack on the US. You know, the one that we could not get information about in advance because of his RINO stance on this. [He's never going to be POTUS, anyway--which is what this is ultimately about--campaign rhetoric.]

McCain is obviously trying to sabotage the Republicans in November so he can run as a third party candidate to beat Hillary. He and his little girlfrend Lindsay Graham (what a sellout)try to stop Bush every chance they get. It is too bad any courage and bravery John McCain had was all used up in Vietnam .He is a coward as a Senator. I will never vote for the man-even against the beast.

If Hillary is elected-so be it-we will have to build this country up from ruins after 4 years of her-but God willing-it can be done.

Between McCain's comment regarding Hayden, and Lindsey Graham now saying he wants an investigation into why the JAG has now stated he agrees with President Bush, these two have demonstrated it is their ego above all else. As for Warner (Mr. Elizabeth Taylor as holdonnow calls him)... he needs to look into retirement. These "republican leaders" who are making this issue on idiological grounds are simply no longer grounded in reality. Our troops are beheaded, mutilized, burned, booby-trapped and left on the streets -- and McCain, Graham, Collins, and Warner think that if we clarify rules for our CIA, our troops will be put in greater danger? Give me a break. Not much worse danger than getting beheaded and getting dead.

I have sent all four who voted for this travesty emails, and I presume several other freepers have as well. If you haven't, you can get to their email by going to www.senate.gov.

I have the opinion that McCain is setting himself up as the little Perot that could. He must be aware that he will not win the '08 Republican primary and therefore is establishing himself for a run as an Independent.

Go ahead McCain, chug, chug chug you little kookoo choo-choo. He thinks he can, he thinks he can, he thinks he can....... but just remember that was a fairy tale just like the chances of McCain ever being President.

This is McCains way of keeping it (obliquely) in our faces that he was a POW, without much risk of creating the furor over the special treatment he received because his daddy was CINCPAC at the time.......It also avoids how he and kerry forcefully and dishonestly dismissed the notion that LIVE POW's were knowingly abandoned by USG.

On the subject of torture in Vn, many Americans were tortured to actual death and/or severe disabilities.....McCain is not one of this group.

Lastly, McCain has openly admitted that within a few days of his shootdown he gave the enemy military information pertaining to the US Navy and its operations.

This guy is bad news, and only a fraction of a cut above kerry in his less than honest attempt to use his Navy daze as a qualification for high office.

McCain and the other 3 senators are only trying to show how strong they are and that they alone can stand up to The President. McCain should never be president and I for one will never ever vote for him or Graham or Wagner or Collins.

McCain says he is doing this to protect our troops if they get captured. What a line of bull. There has never been one US enemy that has adhered to the GC. As reported on Fox with Brit Hume yesterday, the European courts have already defined their interpretation of article 3, so why can't we? The European courts stated that not providing a captured soldier a private toilet, or playing loud noise, is against the GC. I think the band of 4 are using this as a political stunt and we the American people will suffer for it.

I have written to all 4 senators expressing by disappointment in their stand and we should be calling them all of them on Monday. We need to speak up and let them know how we feel about their decision.

There is absolutely no way I could ever support McLame. If he gets the '08 nod for POTUS, I will work as hard as I can to see his defeat. Thankfully, I doubt I will ever see it, unless he switches over to the Democrats, where he belongs.

It appears to me that he has placed his distain for Bush, over beating him in 2000, above his concern for America.
