Saturday Shows for 9/16/06

Below are the topics and guests announced for these programs, along with my take on the "memes" that the shows are trying to push.  With each guest's name are a series of links that I found in a web search that helped me get a handle on who they are and what their likely positions will be when they are interviewed.

The Beltway Boys (Mort Kondrake, Fred Barnes)

CNBC's Tim Russert Show (Tim Russert)

Fox News Watch (Eric Burns)

Journal Editorial Report (Paul Gigot) - FNC show page

Thanks Phsstpok, another ball hit out of the ballpark.

I would add Brit Hume, Fred Barnes and a few others may comment on the election momentum moving towards Republicans, to the chagrin of Democrats. Even though we are not avid poll watchers, or believers, it's stunning that even the polls on the left are noticing the change. The question is whether or not this continues as more voters become engaged in the upcoming election in 51 days.

ABC This Week presents us with the man of the hour, the one, the only, Arizona's Senator John McCain

John McCain on a Sunday talk show! Wow that's something you don't often see.

An editorial in the Union Leader pointing out just how stupid McCain is on the detainee issue:

McCain fights the wrong war

Thanks so much, Phsstpok. The "bipartisan" claims of the Sunday Talk Show hosts grow more disgustingly false--and transparent--as the election approaches. As you very nicely point out, Chris Wallace belongs to this club, too.

Great catch. I've forwarded the article to ABC This Week asking them to get Senator McCain's reaction.

McCain won't listen to President Bush...BUT, you betcha he will listen to that newspaper...VOTES, doncha know??

How is he gonna backpedal on TV tomorrow, yet NOT backpedal in sticking it to Bush??

OR, does he stick his chin out and just outright stick it to Bush to heck with the consequences??

If he does the later, he would have more integrity...so, he more than likely will do the former.

I don't know what he'll do, sleuth. I think he may have made a big mistake with this. Americans are not stupid and the essentials of this dispute are not that complicated. Should we subject these terrorists to some rough treatment in order to get information that prevents the slaughter of themselves and their families? What percentage would say no. I think it's about the same percentage that was not in favor of the NSA program, 20-25%, who have been conned into thinking that the President is actually trying to deprive us of our civil liberties and take over the country.

I truly think that the vast majority want these programs to go forward, and that includes so-called independent voters, who McCain has to be relying on because he knows very well the base wants no part of him, and that is even more true today.

McCain won't back down, in fact he'll wear that editorial as a badge of honor. For all I know he had it planted and has a whole speech built around his response to it.

This episode is about playing to his base, the media.  He has been on the outs with them for awhile and, if he is to have any hope of winning the Presidency, he has to win them back first.  He can "triangulate" later, but only if he reestablishes his personae as the "straight talk express" kinda guy.

He will be noble and long suffering and declare "I may be signing my political death certificate, but I have to stand on principle.  I put the safety of our troops above political self interest."

Of course he's doing nothing of the sort, endangering not only our troops but every citizen of our country.  But, hey, the media will love it.

As I say, this is the anointing (again) of Saint John McCain.  Patron saint of lunatics and opportunists.

hmm..I guess you didn't see the poll #'s that Chrissy was throwing around yesterday, when THEIR poll said something like 51% of Americans think we should NOT interrogate the way Bush wants to...compared to 40% who do..

LOLOLOLOLOL....they never fail to find polls that match their opinion.

Oh, dear, Bob Beckel on Fox...he made a fool of himself on Hannity and Colmes last nigh, IMHO>

I have to admit, you have a much more devious mind than me, Phsstpok, I don't just naturally come up with such conspiracies...but, by golly, I think you have got it!!!

(kidding about the devious mind, you have a GREAT mind, lol).

Yes, I can see that scenario plainly, and it is also substantiated by previous reports that Graham has said he will not back down at all...

Plus, you have the added benefit of Lindsey calling for an investigation into whether the Bushies coerced the JAGS that DID agree with Bush, into signing their letter.

Plus, you have a campaign worker named Colin Powell, who all of a sudden, according to the dems and MSM, is the BEST Sec. of STATE there ever was, with the most integrity.

Plus, you now have the dem spin that says that BUSH is the one willing to put the nation at peril when he says the program cannot go forward without HIS legislation.

Game, set, match?

OR...

Misguided sense of what the voters REALLY think of him?
