IMO the Pope is old, is a great guy and wants what is best in the world. His comments about Mohammad were right on and I think he does not fear getting assassinated by some peaceful Muslim.

I do think the Vatican and Pope will be attacked and many including the Pope will be killed by Muslims at some time.
I've been saying that here as my opinion for some time.
I think the Pope maybe sees that coming and is making this statement regarding Mohammad apart from Islam to make a record of what is radical within Islam.

When or if the Pope gets killed, you are going to see 1.1 pissed off Catholics around the world.
