WASHINGTON, Sept. 15 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in response to remarks President Bush made at a White House press conference today that he hopes the midterms elections are based on economic performance:
"The upcoming midterm elections are a referendum on the failed economic policies of President Bush and Republicans that are leaving middle-class families behind.
"The economic record of President Bush and the Rubber Stamp Republican Congress is woeful. The middle class is being squeezed as more Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. Real income is down. Paychecks of full-time workers are down. The President's record of job creation is the worst since Herbert Hoover. Yet health care costs are at a record high, student loan rates are at their highest in six years, and energy costs are draining more and more from the pocketbooks of American families.
"Meanwhile, Republicans continue to single-mindedly pursue tax cuts for the wealthiest few, and refuse to raise the minimum wage.

What a clueless dunce.
On what planet does she live?
What about Wal-mert and Health Care and the price of tea in CHINA?!!!
Lib talking points are SOOO easy.
Wait a minute, I thought the Midterm Elections are a referendum on Bush and the Republican's failed National Security policies.
This is confusing....
BTW, Nancy... What are the Democrats' policies on the Economy (or National Security, for that matter)?
< crickets >
Will Charlie Rangel quit like he promised when the RATs fail to take over congress?
So if she believes its a referendum, and the Dims loose, will she shut her pie hole and let us kick Islamo-fascist butt?
The End Times are nigh, I tell ya!
You're gonna make me write another check to the RNC, aren't you?
Wow. If THIS is economic failure, how wonderful success must be!
Marshall Applewhite in drag opens her brain once again.
"Unless they do well...then they must have cheated."
>>On what planet does she live?
Well it's not Pluto since it's not considered a planet anymore.
When we gain seats in both the House and Senate will she agree it was a referendum on Democrat inability to find any alternative message besides "Hate Bush"
You said it!
Cut and paste typical garbage. Yawn.
...her limo driver musta told her about the price of gasoline. That's why she didn't mention Exxon-Mobil and Halliburton.
Dow is near it's peak, gas is dropping, the housing industry has cooled off, and that's not bad thing for those looking for more affordable housing...
Pelizzzzzzi...uh..what's the downside to the economy again???
