In an early move, Democrat Jerry Brown launched a television advertising campaign Thursday in the race for California attorney general, using a trio of commercials to attack Republican foe Chuck Poochigian as too extreme for the state.
The ads, part of a weeklong $300,000 buy on cable TV systems throughout the state, according to Brown's campaign, comes as the California GOP airs a feisty radio ad that ridicules Brown as "flaky" and too liberal to serve as the state's top law officer.
Brown, mayor of Oakland and a former California governor, hits Poochigian, a state senator from Fresno, in his 30-second spots for Poochigian's opposition to a ban on 50-caliber sniper rifles, abortion rights, stem cell research and tougher environmental rules. A fourth commercial extols Brown's support from California police chiefs and other law enforcement groups.
With early polls showing Brown enjoying a big lead over Poochigian, the start of a fight on the airwaves nearly two months before election day may signal a quick escalation of the "down-ballot" race, which has attracted national attention because of the presence of the former governor.

One of Brown's commercials features Oakland Police Capt. David Kozicki describing how a 50-caliber round from an assault rifle can pass through two police cars "and come out the other side and still kill you." He adds, "career legislator Charles Poochigian voted to keep these 50-caliber killing machines legal."
Another ad features Kathy Kneer, president of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, saying Poochigian wants to outlaw abortion and overturn Roe vs. Wade. A third has a photo of Poochigian with President Bush and suggests the Republican cannot be trusted to protect abortion rights, defend stem cell research, safeguard the public from dangerous weapons and guard the environment.

May God help the long suffering people of California if a corrupt deceitful thieving mega-liberal vermin like Jerry Brown becomes AG.
Meanhwile Arnold's wife is out stumping for our nominee's opponent:

Seems our little socialist jesuit isnt beyond a little mudslinging or lies in order to get power.
Build a western border fence.
Oh come on. Jerry Brown isn't any more left then any of the other statewide nutcases. If anything, he's more moderate. Not saying I agree with the guy on anything, I can't think of much of anything (other then his insightful statement that the reason there are so many Iraq war protests is because a lot of old Vietnam protesters are board), but he's at least not shy about his views and is entertaining.
Our nominee has virtually no chance of winning. That's a shame, but given that, I'm looking forward to Brown. It'll be a riot. Pass the popcorn.
Jerry Brown?? There's a blast from the past. I hadn't thought about that clown for ages. Does he still live in his 63 Plymouth, or whatever the lie was?
Pooch has better ads:

Used to be Governor Moonbeam. So now I guess it will be Attorney General Moonbeam?
Jerry's not as bad as people think. He's been mayor of Oakland for 8 years. The crime WAS down, but the gangster thugs have been busily murdering each other lately. Downtown is much improved, the Port is expanding, etc.
However, why he's going on about abortion in the AG race is beyond me. California's state constitution permits abortion and would continue to do so even if Roe were overturned. The AG can't change that. The AG's main job is to prosecute crimes and enforce state laws and regulations.
One thing about California's AG that most people don't know - if a county DA won't seek the death penalty in a first degree murder case, the state AG can go over the county DA's head and do it. Pachoogian should consider doing that with the DA here in San Francisco; you know, the place that's been averaging 4-5 murders each weekend in the "inner city neighborhoods".
That's what I mean. He was a terrible Governor, but he wasn't a bad Mayor, and he seems to have mellowed with age.
Anyhow, he's always entertaining. I'd rather the Republican, but realistically, we are gonna get Brown, and I actually think he'll be less bad then Lockleyer.
It IS pretty rediculous that Brown is running stem-cell research ads though. He must be counting on California voters being even dumber then I already think they are.
My oh my, you people are in a world of hurt. The frog has been boiled.
