You want to see something ironic. History Channel is doing a story on "Duke" Cunning and his VN air combat.

I've heard that routine before.

And I don't believe you.

Kiss Ronnie Earle before you nod off, will ya?

Then would you explain to me why most of these listed either donated the amounts to charity or returned them. I say most because some of them such as Harry Reid refused, he of course did no wrong, just like the boxing tickets.

Donating to charity is merely a political calculation. Besides, most campaigns donate significant amounts to charity anyway. It pays their way to see-and-be-seen charitable functions and creates goodwill -- meaning the charitable donations still help the campaign. Donating to charity makes it appear to the public that the campaign has disgorged itself of the tainted donations while at the same time helping the campaign.

Donating to charity would not eliminate any criminal culpability.

I'm actually kind of surprised that you think donating such campaign contibutions to charity means anything at all.

SolidSupplySide: I maintain that it would be best if Republicans were able to clean their own house. I've been very hard on Ney for a long time. I've also been hard on DeLay. There's no room for corruption in the Republican Party.

Amish Dude: I've heard that routine before. And I don't believe you.

We'll have to disagree on that one. I truly believe there's no room for corruption in the GOP. I also believe it is important for Republicans to police themselves. People like you get us into messes like we face in TX22. My district should never go Democrat, but because too many Republicans couldn't clean their own house, we don't have a Republican candidate on the ballot.

The "Republican culture of corruption" is a democrat talking point buzzphrase for those who let others do their thinking for them, in small easy-to-pronounce words that sound vaguely important and mildly alarming.

It is a buzzphrase which has failed to catch on or resonate significantly with anyone but lunatic fringe DemonRat party members - who, like Howard "the scream" Dean, are hardly to be taken seriously.

The Republicans have a very long way to go before they begin to even make moderate progress in catching up to the level of corruption well-established by the "progressive" party, as a cursory reading of the list cited in posting #82 will reveal to the beautiful and the boldly ignorant.

I will again proudly vote Republican {as I have since 1980, when at 18 years and three days, I cast my first vote for Ronaldus Magnus in the general election} and merrily laugh my bloomin' arse off the next day when confirming that my GOP has retained a statistical majority in both the house and the senate.

I may even be in a mood to jovially taunt some hapless liberals!

You think it's important to conduct a witch-hunt based on your own prejudices and accusations of people who claim are your political opponents.

And that's all you have to go on.

Still.

After all this time.

Oh, and DeLay is now not even in office and yet you can't let go.

Dems?
Who cares? I don't.
where there is the stink of corruption, there the dems will be- thus it's not news, it's "dog bites man".
I expect better of Republicans. at least to be smart enough to not get caught.
the masses know damn well that the Democratic party is just as corrupt as any part ever has been, it's sort of like fights breaking out at hockey games expected.

I'm actually kind of surprised that you can't see further than the end of your nose because of the blinders your wearing in an attempt to cover for the corrupt lefties.

..."Clinton's massive crimes remain ignored."

I've lost all hope. It'll never happen. Not in our lifetime. He was too "big" and everyone knows the "big" names never go down.

And he's laughing all the way to the bank, along with his witch of a wife.

Perhaps my memory is faulty, but until recently wasn't 'pled' the proper term to use for the past tense of 'plead' (at least in news articles?) 'Pleaded' sounds so awkward and I don't recall hearing or reading it until the last few years.

Either is correct. The word traces back to Old English, but ultimately has a Latin root through Old French.

Pleaded was actually the standard form a century ago; pled was deemed colloquial. Grammarians were more arbitrary and judgmental back then...

Besides, as President Bush told us in his State of the Union address, Clinton is Bush's father's "best friend."
I guess that's why the President appointed William Jefferson Clinton-Lewinsky to co-lead Katrina and Tsunami relief efforts.

And that's all you have to go on.

Are you kidding? You are in for a big letdown, Amish. You are emotionally tied to the premise that DeLay isn't guilty. Your position is not one based on rational thought.

My political opponents claimed that DeLay's family has accepted $500,000 from Abramoff/Buckham? No, DeLay's lawyer admits that.

My political opponents claim that DeLay took official action on the Internet Gambling Act due to illegal payments? No. That's what Tony Rudy is saying.

A salary, you rectal orifice. But your type is typical. You decide what "corrupt" is and then you exact retribution. Judge, jury and executioner, you are.

Your mentor, Uncle Joe, would be proud.

A salary? And do you believe Lisa Rudy "earned" her "salary"?

C'mon Amish. This is the m.o. here. Pay the wives for no-show "jobs". We already have some plea agreements detailing this practice. Expect one from Tom DeLay to protect his wife.

And who are you to say which job is no-show? Who made you the judge? You'd think an actual judge would have decided that after the decade or so this has been dragging on.

But you are a very slick liar. You say that DeLay's lawyers "admit" to the job and then you choose the characterization of those jobs from the political opponents.

You always tell half the story in an attempt to smear your bete noir.

You don't care about any "corruption". You just want to get DeLay. Even now. What did he do, call you names in the playground?

Even on this thread, you can't just let go. You've let smears and corrupt Travis County prosecutors do your work for you and you haven't minded a bit. If you "cared about corruption" there are a hundred bigger targets. You're a liar and you can't stand the fact that I'm calling you on it.

For the record, the DeLay-Abramoff link has nothing to do with Ronnie Earle or Travis County. If Ney turning state's evidence is damaging to Tom DeLay, it will be because of charges unrelated to DeLay's Texas indictment.
It is for certain that Abramoff funded a golfing trip to Scotland for DeLay as he did for Ney. What is not known at this time is whether Bush Administration federal prosecutors
have evidence of quid pro quos in exchange for Abramoff's largess.
