A skewed view of detainee ( CAPTURED TERRORISTS ) rights
Washington Times ^ | Sept. 15, 2006 | WT Editorial

We applaud President Bush and House Armed Services Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter for their work to come up with a plan for trying terrorist suspects that strikes a reasonable balance that would protect detainee rights while safeguarding the public against future terrorist attacks. Unfortunately, their efforts have run into a buzzsaw of opposition in the Senate, where three prominent Republican members of the Armed Services Committee -- Chairman John Warner and Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham -- have joined with Democrats and some military lawyers in pushing for expanded rights for terrorists that could damage U.S. national security.

At the heart of the debate is how many legal rights should be granted detainees, including such persons as Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, architect of the September 11 attacks, and hundreds of other al Qaeda members and other jihadists captured on the battlefield in places such as Afghanistan. In its Hamdan decision, the Supreme Court held (dubiously, in our view) that Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions, which traditionally applies to domestic rebellion, should also apply to members of al Qaeda, a terrorist group which is not a party to international treaties and by its actions such as mass murder of civilians routinely flouts international law.

Terrorists should have NO RIGHTS.

The Judiciary and Congress should focus on the RIGHTS OF INNOCENT AMERICANS TO LIVE AND NOT BE MURDERED BY TERRORISTS, instead of such concern for the COMFORT of the terrorists, and the h^* with the American people.

I am tired of everyone calling CAPTURED TERRORISTS "detainees", as if they were just some people "detained" for minor infractions, instead of terrorists intent on killing us, all of us.

Agreed. People who plow planes into buildings should have NO rights. But tell that to the RINO Gang that is more concerned with how we look to the Eurotrash than with the safety of Americans.

captured terrorists should have the following rights:
1) the right to water, maybe some gruel too.
2)the right to squeal when pistolwhipped.
3)as much pork as they can eat

The Dems should go to Iraq and talk face to face to the "Insurgent Iraqi Freedom Fighters" without any escort...

Wonder just how many times McCain will "join with the democrats" in opposition to this president or the conservatives ?

Every time any important piece of legislation comes up - we just wait to see how McCain will screw it up and put himself right in the middle to get all the attention.

And, some still think he is presidential material....huh!!!

I'd make the list just one item:

Who frightens you more - Osama bin Hiden, or G-d?

With G-d's blessing, this nation will survive. Under G-d's wrath, no amount of weapons and intelligence will save us.

Osama's useful idiots can possibly kill my physical body. Then again, so can some staggering drunk moron behind the wheel. In the numbers game, the drunken moron seems more immediate and dangerous.

Don't confuse what I'm saying as give them roses and throw them a tea party. But pure vindictiveness and blatent cruelty robs us of our moral imperitive.

IOWs actively undermining national security. One of the few things the Constitution specifies as a function of federal government.

The Geneva Convention specifies who is covered by its statutes and it does not include those with no national ties or those who wear no uniforms ie. terrorists.

The above mentioned Senators are undeniably providing aid and comfort to the enemy. That's not hyperbole it's a demonstrable fact.
