THIS fall, stacked amid the hefty new college admissions books like "The Best 361 Colleges" and "Financial Aid for the Utterly Confused" is a guide about an entirely different sort of college acceptance.
The Advocate College Guide for LGBT Students (Alyson Books) profiles 100 of the country's "best campuses for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students, and it arrives at a time when gay students are more vocal and visible.
It's looking more like half or most gay and lesbian Americans are coming out before they get to college, said Bruce Steele, the guide's editor in chief. Unlike in the past, the experience they will have on a campus is something they can think about before they go to college.
Among the top 20 colleges in the guide are the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Southern California.
Lance Sun, 17, of Flushing, Queens, said he had purchased the glossy yellow guide as a supplementary resource to help him gauge how well he might fit in at various campuses.
"I remember a few months ago I was looking for a Web site or guide," he said. "I tried really hard and I couldn't find one."
But a few weeks ago he received an e-mail message from the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, a national education organization, about the new guide.

“It’s looking more like half or most gay and lesbian Americans are coming out before they get to college,” said Bruce Steele, the guide’s editor in chief. “Unlike in the past, the experience they will have on a campus is something they can think about before they go to college.”
"For decades college guides have offered advice on subjects as varied as tuition, dorms and even where students can buy the best marijuana. Yet books devoted entirely to gay students’ experiences have been scarce."
"[...]while being gay at Duke is more challenging than being gay at N.Y.U., progress has been made. 'Four years ago I wouldn’t have recommended it,' she said. 'Now I think it’s a prime opportunity, and a rare one.'"
My guess is that Brigham Young University (my alma mater) did not make the list.
"looking more like half or most gay and lesbian Americans are coming out before they get to college,"
to the homosexuals, this is evidence that their recruiting efforts are paying off.......the real dividend they see is the large number of converts, not the timing of "coming out"
You can't make this stuff up.
ping
"Check this out!!" ping
You know, college used to be about getting an education......
Okay, I'm no math whiz, but if 3% of the population is "gay," and gays gravitate to universities where other gays go, don't you eventually run out of gays? Mathematically you won't be able to have more than a dozen or so "gay friendly" schools.

If you want on (or off) this Catholic and Pro-Life ping list, let me know!
Bingo!! I share your thoughts. Unfortunately, the people paying for this propoganda are the parents of students who are enrolled in these universities.
Some typos are just damned funny, and that was one of them.
A smart publisher would have marketed the same book on conservative websites under the title, "100 Colleges to Stay the Hell Away From"....
They'd have made twice the money...
ewwww.
"You know, college used to be about getting an education......"

Tell me about it. You're never too young to ghettoize yourself. Something tells me that such arcane disciplines as physics, engineering, etc. do not rank too high in the LBGT curriculum.
Yes. That said, this is all about the homosexual agenda and its associated propoganda. Another disturbing trend in universities is the increasing funding of ridiculous fields/disciplines like "Queer Theory," "Gay and Lesbian Studies," abd the like!!
I'm sure you're right. I kinda doubt the Virginia Military Institute does either.
Actually, TWO of them. :-)
With so many...um...references...in there, you have to wonder if the selection of this individual and wording was intentional.
