WASHINGTON - A rebellious Senate committee defied President Bush on Thursday and approved terror-detainee legislation he has vowed to block, deepening Republican conflict over a key issue in the middle of congressional campaigns.
Sen. John Warner (news, bio, voting record), R-Va., chairman of the Armed Services Committee, pushed the measure through his panel by a 15-9 vote, with Warner and two other GOP lawmakers joining Democrats. The tally set the stage for a showdown on the Senate floor as early as next week.
I'm still holding out hope that dope L.Graham is playing rope-a-dope with the Senate (D)s just as he did to get the last two SCOTUS justices confirmed.
The ONLY way I'd vote for McCain is if Hillary were the Democrat nominee.

Every Congressman held to account? Do you mean like they were for September 11? They are not held to account for their negligence as a body, they only surface to hold everybody else to account, usually after the fact, usually to say who went too far or not far enough, depending which side of the issue makes them look right and just.
Based on McCain's personal history, he should recuse himself from any discussion on how to protect POWs.

All congressman have to stand tall and be evaluated every couple of years. Elections aren't perfect, but they're all we've got.
I don't really see the harm in giving that information to people on their way to the gallows. It's not like any of the top tier guys are going to walk. The trials won't be open to the public anyway, due to the classified nature of the material.
So tell KSM everything. Everything. Give him the unfiltered vision of his crimes, pursuit, and capture. Let him reflect on the futility of it all, in his last few days on Earth.

It is amazing to me that US Senators are actually arguing, THIS week of all weeks, that we should simply turn back the clock! That we should dismantle the system put in place since 09-11 and simply go back to the pettirfrongging legalistic, overly bureaucratic PC system that failed so disastrously on 09-11-01

Believe me I will be watching my congressional reps...I can already hear the left now certain impeachment, lame duck etc..For all the above who said they won't be watching the news for a while, well I stopped watching network news, heck even fox, a long time ago. It's just unbelievable what is said by the left and when you try to debate they just start screaming all the liberal talking points..

The War on Terror is going better, the economy is growing, unemployment is at an all-time low, Bush's poll numbers are rising, the price of gas is dropping, oil per barrel is dropping, so on and so on.
So, what happens? 3 Republicans throw it all away and decide captured terrorists have all the rights of citizens.
Do they desire Democrats back in power that much?
As was said in the movie this weekend, "are there any men left in Washington?"
