Senate panel defies Bush on terror

WASHINGTON - A rebellious Senate committee defied President Bush on Thursday and approved terror-detainee legislation he has vowed to block, deepening Republican conflict over a key issue in the middle of congressional campaigns.

Sen. John Warner (news, bio, voting record), R-Va., chairman of the Armed Services Committee, pushed the measure through his panel by a 15-9 vote, with Warner and two other GOP lawmakers joining Democrats. The tally set the stage for a showdown on the Senate floor as early as next week.

I'm sure that there is an 800 number, but I was too mad to look it up. Let me see if I can find one.

"The three men all have military experience. Susan does not, smart ass."

So when they vote wrong on, hmm, let's say abortion...since they're not women, they're just stupid? Is that how voting works in the Senate?

Keep digging.

Collins is clueless. She has never worn the uniform. The three men have. They KNOW better first hand.

Graham as expert...because he was a JAG? LOL My ex husband was a JAG and their exposure is limited in breadth. Graham's experience did not give him ~ all-knowing ~ expertise. Not only that, but this type of war has not been addressed/challenged under the GC... They just want us to comply with the International court.

Was it Graham that floated the rumor that the 5 AG's that signed the letter for the WH's position were coerced? I wouldn't be surprised.

"The aim of these swine is to make us abandon our values and fight in the sewers with them."

We dropped one A-bomb in Japan that killed how many civis? They still did not stop. We dropped another A-bomb and said Tokyo is next. They stopped.

Why, because of force and fear.

Values!?, in a war. Only rules in war is that you win. If that means scaring the living feces out of people then they should have not started and supported war in the first place.

This is a totally meaningless bill. It will not become law.

This is all about power.

The Senators in question believe the president has too much. (except for John McStain, who is running for president by dissing Bush)

The President is fighting to keep what power he has.

Just the usual clash of the titans of power, and little more.

"He is no longer a war hero, he's merely a turncoat aiding and abetting our enemy by tying our country's hands in the war on terror."

Right your are... Benedict Arnold was a war hero just prior to becoming a traitor. Just because someone is heroic once in there life doesn't give them a lifelong pass for their subsequent actions.

Well, some of these Senators depend on money from the national party for their campaigns. Money that has come from people like me. I've just informed the RNC, that they will be looking elsewhere for financial support.

They are either with the party or they are against it. But these imbeciles aren't even with the party, they are endangering our national security, with their "power grab".
