Gov. Turns Cowboy in TV Ad (NM Richardson)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | September 13, 2006 | Jeff Jones

Reach for your remotes, pardners: Gov. Bill Richardson is wearing spurs, toting a six-gun and blazing away with Western movie cliches in his new re-election campaign ad.

"Gimme a milk," growls Richardson, wearing a lawman's star on his vest as he strides into an Old West saloon in the TV ad.

The ad touts progress on a bunch of issues during Richardson's tenure— including the governor's pet Rail Runner Express commuter train— and doesn't take a single crack at his Republican opponent, former state GOP chair John Dendahl.

"This is a light-hearted way for the governor to talk about his record," said Richardson campaign manager Amanda Cooper. She said the spot was filmed on an old movie set outside of Santa Fe.

Richardson gets in a plug for another pricey project, saying: "Next time, let's make a space movie."

It seems to be a reference to a planned commercial spaceport south of Truth or Consequences.

Stupid is as stupid does.

"This is a light-hearted way for the governor to talk about his record," said Richardson campaign manager Amanda Cooper.

His record in NM is to expand state government; find all cronies, supporters, FOBs cushy state jobs; special projects for special interests; punish any and all who oppose him, especially legislators of either party by vetoing their bills; and do all of this using money from rising oil and natural gas revenues while at the same time putting areas for exploration/development off limits at the request of his environmentalist friends.

I figured from the title that he claimed to once have played QB for the Dallas Cowboys.

And that differs from your typical governor, Republican or Democrat, in what way?

Don't forget that Richardson has made the entire state of New Mexico a sanctuary for illegal aliens.

Well, you do have a point. But in the opinion of many here in NM, he has been particularly ruthless in doing so.

Regarding, cronyism, it was not just filling civil-service exempt positions which every governor does, it was requiring all appointees to submit resignations and accepting those generally without respect to qualifications. Further, he has created many dozens of relatively high-paying state jobs just so he can fill them with the remaining friends who were left out when all the existing appointments were filled.

You'd think they would build it in Roswell...

Ol' Billy Rich better watch out -- they excoriated President Bush for being a cowboy!

I have thought the same thing for some time now. It would be deemed Earth’s Intergalactic Spaceport.
