Harris co-sponsors fence bill
Nelson votes against border security
TAMPA, FL Congresswoman Katherine Harris, the Republican candidate for United States Senate, became a co-sponsor yesterday for H.R. 6061, The Secure Fence Act, to confront the immediate need for additional infrastructure to help secure our borders from terrorists and other criminal elements. A vote on the bill is anticipated later today. Her opponent, Bill Nelson has stymied recent efforts to bolster border security by voting in favor of Senate Amendment 4188, legislation that includes provisions requiring the United States to consult with Mexico before building a border fence.
As noted in a Washington Times article this past July, Kris Kobach (former Counsel to then Attorney General John Ashcroft) commented before a House subcommittee that, I know of no other provision in U.S. law where the federal government requires state and local governments every state and local government on the border to consult with state and local governments of a foreign power before the federal government can act. He went on to add that such a mandate would result in endless delay.
Congresswoman Katherine Harris stands up for our security and will never cater to foreign governments, when the safety of the American people is at stake. Mexico refuses to aggressively confront illegal immigration and may actually encourage its citizens to break our laws, as evidenced by a publication put out by Mexicos Foreign Ministry detailing helpful tips for potential illegal immigrants.
Representative Harris strongly asserts, Our national security must always come first. In the war on terror, delay can be deadly, and Nelsons decision to mandate consultations with Mexico on the issue of the border fence is dangerous for America. I am proud to co-sponsor legislation that will make a tremendous difference at the borders, and I will continue to put the safety of our citizens first and foremost.
The Secure Fence Act provides for over 700 miles of two-layered reinforced fencing as well as cameras, ground sensors, unmanned aerial vehicles and integrated surveillance technology. Additionally, it requires the Department of Homeland Security to empower and equip border personnel with the necessary resources to disable fleeing vehicles.

BUMP
Looks like a clear choice to me. Problem there is Florida is already loaded up with illegals of every sort.
Harris's only chance is to find an issue that really reasonates. Maybe this will be it.
She should go up in the polls a few points for this as the word gets out.
This may help Katherine, if it is announced in such a way that it makes the news. But this alone will not close the gap in the polls.
If only every Republican candidate would come down HARD on illegals and be FOR a big fence... the Dhimmi's wouldn't have a prayer in November... or 2008 for that matter.
Bill Nelson is just like other Defeatocrats who are more interested in the rights of terrorists than in protecting the American people.
Harris believes that secure borders are critical for our homeland security!
She is an aggressive lady, and the MSM in Florida will have to discuss the issues. She's on the right side of the issues, so IMO we have a better than 50-50 chance.
She will make that very point and other points when she slays him during their debate.
ping
Harris should beat the brains out of Nelson on the fence issue.
"Her opponent, Bill Nelson has stymied recent efforts to bolster border security by voting in favor of Senate Amendment 4188, legislation that includes provisions requiring the United States to consult with Mexico before building a border fence."
The sheer stupidity of some lawmakers to consult with Mexico before doing ANYTHING in the states is unbelievable. Mexico can't even tie their own shoes, much less all the criminals their government sends us who rape and murder our women and children...
Florida will eventually break off and float due to the weight of illegals.
Thanks for the link to the bill.......
He already criticized Harris for running "a negative campaign" when all Harris did was talk about his liberalism. He's avoiding the issues. And he hastily agreed to debate Harris.
That's not the confidence of someone who's "30 points" ahead in the polls. That's someone who realizes the writing's on the wall.
I agree.....
FL Freepers should write letters to their local newspapers since the liberal rags don't want Floridians to know how Nelson ignores the dangers we face.
Sure hope this bill gets passed!
