Over the summer when the Dixie Chicks were preparing the media blitz for their new album, I was contacted by both Time magazine and 60 Minutes for comment on FR's role in putting the hurt on group's career. For some mysterious reason, both of these liberal media outlets failed to include FR in their stories.

Katherine Monk, the writer of this review, is nothing more than a movie critic who wishes folks would take her more seriously. I guess that's what majoring in English and then getting a post-grad degree in film gets you: unfulfilled delusions of grandeur. From another article of hers:
"Like Rumsfeld says, the truth will eventually reveal itself. Thanks to Michael Moores Fahrenheit 9/11, Sandra Goodmans Army of One, and Jehane Noujaims Control Room, that truth grows a little strongera little more completeevery day."
How does it feel, Kathy? No matter what you write, no matter how much you hate Bush - your side will continue to lose. You can stomp your feet, hold your breath, and plug your ears, but the majority of Americans (and Canadians) read your tripe and laugh at you.

"In watching this movie, it felt like I was watching myself mature," Maines says. So, looking into the camera and calling the POTUS a "dumb f*&k" is a sign of maturity to her?

Sent the following to the author of the article:
In your article, you wrote, "According to the research done by Kopple and the Chicks themselves, the Free Republic sent out form letters to their 30,000-thick subscription list with market-specific information, saying if the station did not stop playing their music, people would cease listening to the station."
While your statement was correct "According to the research done by Kopple and the Chicks themselves...", the part which follows is completely false. I've donated money to Freerepublic.com monthly for years, and have NEVER received any mailing of any kind, except to say my monthly contribution had been received.
Another false statement is, ""It turned us into women," says Natalie Maines, speaking about the past three years in near media exile..." Actually, I had never heard of the Dixie Chicks until Natalie's comment. They have received a great deal of free publicity since then, including articles such as yours.
However, they have repeatedly insulted their fan base. For example, in your article, Natalie says, ""But if you live in Lubbock, Texas, where I'm from - you just have one paper and one radio station and unless you're savvy on the Internet, that's it for you. If Bush said get a gun and kill an Arab, they would do that."
I've never lived in Lubbock, but I had the dubious pleasure of living nearby for 4 years. There are plenty of radio stations available from nearby towns. More important, her comment reeks of, 'People who live in Lubbock are too stupid to think for themselves - not like the intelligent, savy Dixie Chicks'.
I humbly suggest this attitude - that their loyal fans are a bunch of idiots who lack the intelligence to follow the lead of the incredibly wise Dixie Chicks - is what has caused many of their former fans to modify their radios with an automatic "No Natalie Switch".
When you think your fans are idiots, your fans may agree - and wise up and become former fans.

At a Shut Up and Sing! press conference, the Chicks say they have absolutely no regrets about speaking their mind. If anything, the experience made them realize just how vulnerable to censorship... Censorship? Gimme a break. We MUST listen to their music? We MUST buy their albums? We MUST attend their concerts? Sounds a tab bit totalitarian -- do the chicks do a goosestep on stage?
They're nuts.
Fans have the right to reject or accept anyone or any group in a free society... And maybe that's the real problem. The chicks feel we should be forced to give them our money, forced to buy their records, and forced to attend their concerts.

"In the ... '60s, there was a sense of a cultural movement that happened, and you really felt a sense of belonging to a community. They (Dixie Chicks) were on their own, and our hope is that people who see this film ... will become part of their community so the Chicks no longer have to stand alone," Kopple says. In the 60's? What a joke.
For liberals it's always 1965 -- and the collective wisdom of 17 year old boomers are pushing toward the age of Aquarius. Sounds lame now - it was sillier then...
Chicks, that was over 40 years ago for most of us... is that what you want to go back to? It's the past, the world has moved on.
Kopple, it would be like being in 1965 and having to listen to the old folks talk about how great it was in 1925.... Some people get "stuck" in a time period and can't adjust. We called them the "establishment in the 60's and made fun of them... Remember that Kopple? That's who you are now - you're the person stuck in the past. And you and the chicks have that old fogies mentality. Hanging on to a time that has past on... Sorry chicks, the 60's are O-VAR.

Chicks don't turn into women, they turn into old biddies, or in the case of the Dixie Chicks; old pitties.

I'm actually thrilled about this. As long as liberals continue to delude themselves into thinking that all their trevails are the result of some VRWC and not due to the fact that a majority of people in this country disagree with them, they will continue to pursue agendas that further marginalize their positions.
You don't know how many times I've read liberal rants that claim the majority support their views, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. It's all the fault of the corporate media or Karl Rove or the Swifties. It's never THEM.

Maines is married to the actor, Adrian Pasdar.
His father Homayoon was born in Iran and is a cardiologist in PA.

Maines made an offhand comment about being against violence, and being embarrassed that the U.S. president, George W. Bush was from Texas Ha ha. What a pantload. There was nothing "offhand" about it. It was calculated and planned.
