quite a complex event Occam's razor: when multiple competing theories have equal predictive powers, the principle recommends selecting those that introduce the fewest assumptions and postulate the fewest hypothetical entities.
In other words it is far more likely that we killed them off than they forgot how to wear clothes or eat from global warming. Humanoids can live anywhere on Earth and eat just about anything. They are not as likely to die out like non-tool-making non-plan-making animals.
Modern anthropologists have the bad habit of projecting their own personal belief system onto ancient people. They want to make believe that humans are naturally benign peace loving leftist hippies. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
