ANNOUNCEMENT:
Inspirational Iraqi War Veteran to Speak in Westminster, Maryland.
"Christian Bagge Day at North Carroll Community School"
I read a story about this young man, Christian Bagge, earlier this summer.
The summarized version is that Christian was a member of the Army, (Alpha Company, 3rd Battalion, 116th Cavalry). He was seriously injured during a clearing mission near Kirkuk when an IED exploded under his HUMVEE.
Unfortunately, as a result of this tragedy, Christian lost parts of both of his legs. He was sent to Walter Reed Medical Center to recover and receive prosthetic legs, which he also had to be trained to use. While recovering Christian had an opportunity to meet and speak with President Bush and he requested an opportunity to run with the President when he was able.
He accomplished this on June 27th, 2006. He story is very inspirational!
Christian will be speaking at a school in Westminster Maryland this Friday, September 15th, 2006. While it has been difficult preparing for this event in such a short period of time, NCCS would like to welcome any members of the public and we are preparing for this event as though we will receive 200 to 300 visitors.
The nature of Christian's talk will be age appropriate for children 1st through 8th grade, and I expect that anyone who comes will have an opportunity to meet with him personally, as well.

I think I saw pictures of this hero running with Pres. Bush. Those who get the opportunity to meet and talk with him will be very fortunate.
I'm no MSNBC fan, but i pulled up this article about this young man there. I thought it ws great!

I can't wait to thank him personally.
Hometown bump!

Good for him to go to speak to children. They need to see heroes, up close and personal.
Pinging the DC Chapter, in case anyone is interested in what sounds like a very good event.

President Bush Goes on Run with Staff Sergeant Christian Bagge
The South Lawn
4:02 P.M. EDT
THE PRESIDENT: I first met Christian when I went to Walter Reed -- or Brooke Army in San Antonio, Texas. And he said, "I want to run with you." He was in bed -- he had lost both legs. I looked at him, like, you know, there's an optimistic person. But I could tell in his eyes that he meant it. And after a lot of hard work and a lot of compassionate care, this fine man is here on the South Lawn running with the President. And he ran the President into the ground, I might add. (Laughter.)

The president jogged at the White House with a soldier who lost both legs to a roadside bomb in Iraq.
He met with the 2006 Democracy Award winners.
Bush addressed the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research in Washington regarding the line item veto he wants Congress to pass.

Thanks for the link. I KNEW I'd seen pictures of this before, and was pretty sure it was on A Day In The Life, but couldn't recall when. Thanks again.
bumping for a hero.
It probably was a "Day in the Life", and I'm guessing the day was probably June 27th or 28th - the day that Christian ran with the Prez.
This is a cool site. You can locate photos of Christian by simply typing Christian Bagge into the "search engine".

It's a pretty cool site all the way around though.
Thanks much.
My son and I have been doing lots of web based research in preparation for this visit.
Whew!
Great Day! Weather held out. Kids had an awesome time! Well attended by visitors of the school.
What can I say about Christian Bagge! Just that he is a very kind and gracious young man. He made this trip out to Westminster from Texas just to meet with our school. Christian really seemed to have an excellent rapport with the kids. He spent a fair amount of time with all of the classes by themselves, then the lot of them had a pizza party for lunch before Christian gave a talk before the school and event attendees.
tgslTakoma was able to make it out to the event. I think she was able to get some shots and I hope she will be able to post these.
The story was picked up on WBAL-TV 11 in Baltimore and they did a nice piece about Christian and the students. It was actually a little somber compared to the days festivities, but reflected his very positive message, nontheless.
The Carroll County Times and Baltimore Sun also attended to the story. The Sun actually ran a piece today, as well. It'll be tough for me to pick up a copy of that paper, but I''ll have to.
Thanks, Christian - may God bless you.
The teachers were all great, as were the kids. What an uplifting afternoon!
Thanks much for the follow-up ping. Glad to hear this was such a great event, although with a man like Christian, it couldn't be anything else. It's amazing that the media covered this inspirational event when usually they're focused on the angry and alienated. As a country, we are blessed by our courageous and honorable all-volunteer military, and I just wish they would get the recognition from the lamestream media that they deserve. Again, many thanks.
Awesome! Glad it went so well! Thanks for the ping...
Can't wait for the Report. Thanks to both of you for being there.
