Novak: Armitage Did Not Tell All
Drudge ^ | Wed Sep 13 2006 08:37:07 ET | Drudge

"When Richard Armitage finally acknowledged last week he was my source three years ago in revealing Valerie Plame Wilson as a CIA employee, the former deputy secretary of state's interviews obscured what he really did," Bob Novak claims in a column set for Thursday release.

Novak, attempting to set the reocrd straight writes: "First, Armitage did not, as he now indicates, merely pass on something he had heard and that he 'thought' might be so. Rather, he identified to me the CIA division where Mrs. Wilson worked, and said flatly that she recommended the mission to Niger by her husband, former Amb. Joseph Wilson. Second, Armitage did not slip me this information as idle chitchat, as he now suggests. He made clear he considered it especially suited for my column."

Novak slams Armitage for holding back all this time.

Armitage's silence for "two and one-half years caused intense pain for his colleagues in government and enabled partisan Democrats in Congress to falsely accuse Rove of being my primary source," Novak explains.

"When Armitage now says he was mute because of special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald's request, that does not explain his silent three months between his claimed first realization that he was the source and Fitzgerald's appointment on Dec. 30. Armitage's tardy self-disclosure is tainted because it is deceptive."

Why must Republicans always meekly play defense?

Because a Republican has to have his heart, guts, spine, and balls surgically removed before he can be let into Washington.

Because someone might call the Republicans "mean-spirited" and revoke their Georgetown cocktail party invitations if any Republican ever tried to fight back.

Armitage is a coward. He hides from accountability and responsibility. He's also a liar.

Plamegate has two sides: Those who have integrity and those that don't.

Those with integrity: Rove, Cheney, Bush, Libby

Those without: Drive-by Media, Fitzgerald, Armitage, Powell, Dean, Bush-hating conspiracy theorists.

This should be a screaming headline on Drudge and many other sites.

I have been saying that all along. This is the big, unanswered question and the Achilles heel of Armitage's explanation. He told Powell immediately. The two of them are in on this up to their eyeballs. They were afraid to tell the WH or intentionally left it out there to damage Cheney and Rove. I suspect the latter given the bureaucratic acumen these two have in Washington turf wars and infighting.

There would have been no Fitzgerald if Armitage and Powell had come clean with the WH.

Armitage is the Lincoln Chafee of the State Department. The State Department is The Lincoln Chafee of Federal Agencies.

So can we just abolish the State Department? Please?

Why? Because a couple of Bush political appointees screwed up?

I hope all of you are listening to yourselves, with regard to Armitage AND THEN REMEMBER THAT Mc PAIN HAS NOW ADDED ARMITAGE TO HIS "ADVISORY" GROUP FOR Mc PAIN's 2008 POTUS BID!!!!!!!!

How much do you want to bet that McPain himself knew all along that Armitage was Novak's source?

McPain has been conducting internal political war against GWB since day one.

If he gets close to GOP nomination in 2008, the party is dead.

This is unbelievable.

How could this situation have happened.

Armitage is a weasel, but we have to pin it all on Fitzgerald because noone but him had the power to tell everyone to remain quiet for these two long years.

Please, Novak, why didn't you speak out 2.5 years ago and save everyone the "instense pain".

Its my understanding that Fitz can ask/request any of the witnesses to be quiet.....But, he cannot order them to be quiet. Armitage can still talk to whoever about his testimony before the Grand Jury..!

Armitage is more than a weasel. As pointed out by David Frum at NRO, Scooter Libby was Armitage's personal defense attorney in Iran-Contra. Armitage is a scumbucket who should have his citizenship revoked and be deported to one of those Arab countries he loves so dear.
