AUSTIN Two polls released Monday found Gov. Rick Perry is vulnerable to defeat, but his campaign is questioning the surveys' accuracy.
Conventional wisdom in the governor's race has been that none of the governor's four opponents would have a chance to beat him if he gets more than 35 percent of the vote on Nov. 7. There is no runoff in the general election, so the top vote-getter wins.
Perry has hovered between 35 percent and 41 percent in public polls for months. But he has fallen into the defeatable zone in polls done by Rasmussen Reports and the Wall Street Journal/Zogby Online.
The Rasmussen poll put Perry's re-election support at 33 percent, and the Zogby poll had his support at 31 percent.
"It's hard to see him losing above 37 percent, but below 35 percent, somebody might get that much out of the remaining 65 percent of the vote," said University of Houston pollster Richard Murray, a Democrat.
But Perry spokesman Robert Black said the polls paid for by news media companies should not be trusted because their methodology is not sound political science.

Whether is does or not, which I hope it will if that means getting rid of a rino like Perry, what does it say about Perry that in a state as conservative as TX that a sitting republican governor is polling this low?
He promised to lower homeowners insurance rates. Rates have doubled.
His campaign was all about lowering taxes and all we got was MORE taxes.
Perry is the puppet for special interest campaign contributors. Toll Road good example.
Perry is no true conservative.
Please tell me the good Perry has done for Texas. And don't start with medical malpractice lawsuits which is another special interest group since the savings and benefits were not passed on to citizens of the great state.
And you had rather have the Dems controlling Texas????Your choice, but just remember what it was like and it will only be worse now....the Dems are much more liberal than the used to be.
No, I would rather Kinky be governor, that is why I am voting for him. If and when Perry loses it will be because he lost the support of enough Texans.
If you have been reading my posts, I said he has done nothing for us Texans. But Kinky will say whatever you want to hear to make him governor, then he will revert right back to his Dem ways....and you end up worse than where you started...is that what you want??
I disagree.
I do not agree. If you know the history of Kinky, you know he is in tight with the Democrats in Texas..I will not be party to putting him in office.
And me and mine will vote for Perry....and we will live with that. Just remember when the Dems control Texas again, either by majority or by Kinky...it was people like you that did it.
That was one heck of a lesson that should not be repeated.
In all honesty none of them thrill me, but I will no longer be party to putting rinos in office. I think Kinky is hte best of four less then desirable options.
If you think Kinky is the better of the 4, all I can do is pray for you!!!
You really need the prayers!
I hate putting Rinos anywhere, but as of late it has either been Rinos or Dems and I refuse to put them in any office, no matter how many lies they tell while campaigning.
No we needed a true conservative to run for the Governors office, we don't got one. So I will vote for the best one available, Kinky.
For most people being hit in the head twice finally convinces them, but there are a few ......
I will not vote for a liar. Period.
I don't know about that. He sure told the "evacuees" where to go.
Perry has not turned off those many votes...not according to any of the poles that are out, as there are several out now both statewide and nationwide showing Perry in the lead. No one in my area is even thinking of voting for Kinky.
