Neanderthals: 0

Homo Sapiens: 1

That about sums it up.

I knew that there had to be a reason I'm having these feelings of inadequacy.

I don't really understand your Congress, or your system of checks and balances.. because, as I said during the campaign - I'm just a caveman! I fell on some ice, and later got thawed out by scientists. But there is one thing I do know - we must do everything in our power to lower the Capitol Gains Tax. Thank you!

"When compared with our common ancestors, Trinkaus discovered modern humans have roughly twice as many uniquely distinct traits as do Neanderthals."

"In other words, Neanderthals are more like the other members of our family tree than modern humans are."

Maybe he's right. Maybe modern humans are unique. Maybe we didn't come from "our family tree" at all?

"Anthropologist: Neanderthals More Normal Than We Are"

So that is what "progressive" means. I was always wondering just where Libs were progressing to, now I can see it. What idiots!

Nebraska man reconstruction based on one tooth.

It was later determined to be a pig's tooth.

I posted the Nebraska man illustration for fun. In general, it is a reminder than one should not speculate too wildly, and a little humility about "scientific" claims is in order.

The posted article seems pretty sound, IMHO.

"Neanderthals are often thought of as the stray branch in the human family tree, but research now suggests the modern human is likely the odd man out."

Not likely. Neanderthal was NEVER an ancestor of modern man. I know that's blasphemy to many, but look these up if you disagree:

The (mitochondrial) DNA sequences were from five specimens from widely separated sites over a period of years.
According to the DNA, Neanderthal was NOT a human ancestor.

Funny you don't hear much about this, isn't it?

a tall glass of the usual, please:
The Neandertal Enigma
by James Shreeve
Frayer's own reading of the record reveals a number of overlooked traits that clearly and specifically link the Neandertals to the Cro-Magnons. One such trait is the shape of the opening of the nerve canal in the lower jaw, a spot where dentists often give a pain-blocking injection. In many Neandertal, the upper portion of the opening is covered by a broad bony ridge, a curious feature also carried by a significant number of Cro-Magnons. But none of the alleged 'ancestors of us all' fossils from Africa have it, and it is extremely rare in modern people outside Europe." [pp 126-127]
