September 11, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - ABC scrubbed some of the most provocative material out of its "Path to 9/11" miniseries, which began last night, yielding to pressure from former President Bill Clinton. The network defied his demand that it pull the two-part series, but it re-edited material the former president said reinvented history to blame his administration for failing to nab Osama Bin Laden in the 1990s.
Conspicuously absent from earlier edits of the film was real-life video of Clinton's court deposition in the Monica Lewinsky scandal. But the movie still included Clinton's famous finger-wagging statement that he "did not have sexual relations" with her.
In Part I, which aired last night, Clinton appeared somewhat less distracted by the scandal.

I watched it and it was devastating to the so called legacy of Slick Willie and his "staff". I can't believe ABC had the guts to show it. But it isn't over yet and they still have time to lay blame elsewhere, if you know what I mean.
"Conspicuously absent from earlier edits of the film was real-life video of Clinton's court deposition in the Monica Lewinsky scandal."
"In the original version, a scene showed Clinton's national security adviser, Sandy Berger, hanging up on a conference call with CIA boss George Tenet and U.S. agents outside Bin Laden's camp after Tenet asks him for clearance to take out the terror master.
"In the revised version, Berger first dithered, then told Tenet that if he's so sure he can get Bin Laden, he should call Clinton."
How is that contradiction going to play out for them?
"The left is going ape-shit over how this is fiction, but tonight the portrayal of Bush they will say is real."
Nahhhhh, they'll complain because the show didn't show how Karl Rove trained the pilots, and arranged to have the Pentagon's wall to be blown up to make it look like a plane struck it.
I find it so ironic that my dearest friend is a big lefty. We just do not discuss politics, except after 9/11 she did say she was glad Gore did not win because he could not have done what Bush did. I doubt she'd admit to that conversation now.
Anyway, last night on the phone she made a comment about how she couldn't watch this trashy movie because it was all just so false. God forbid she acknowledge the truth about the Clintoon era.
For all the complaining about made up dialog, the only truly non verifiable conversations are the ones between the terrorists. The writers had interviews with enough people to get a sense of the discussions that took place within the Executive Branch as well as the conversations between competing agencies and both CIA and FBI agents.
The only noteworthy thing in this whole mess will barely be noticed. That is, the democrats threatening ABC's license over this program. THAT is a real threat to liberty, and true to form, Americans and the media will ignore it.
This movie, the left would deny the grass is green and the sky is blue if it didn't fit their agenda. Truth is an inconvienent thing for them most of the time.
The right will complain it didn't go far enough. That Clinton is the source of all evil in the world.
The center won't pay attention, they'll watch the Colts game, or 24, or play computer poker. 9/11 is sooo... yesterday.
From what I saw, if ABC edited material out, it must have been an absolute disaster for the clintonistas. The material still in the series was certainly devastating to the slick legacy.
Here are some of the un-edited parts.

I'll wager that ABC and the Clintonista's drummed up the "demand" to make ABC look good after gutting the gutless editing.
I caught the program shortly after it started, but I waited for something on the OBL presence in Sudan, the Islamist action in Somalia, or the failure to capture OBL when he moved from Sudan to Afghanistan. There was a cut of the August 1996 fatwa that declared war on the USA and issued after OBL departed Sudan, but it was given no context -- which makes me believe that something must have been cut.
EVen the "Edited" version is devestating to the Clinton legacy. I cannot wait to get my hands on the "DIRECTOR'S CUT" DVD. Hopefully one will be out by Christmas, I have a long list of relatives who may get a DVD this year.
Was it just me or did anyone else find the whole episode "choppy" ?
I've learned there's just no discussing this with some folks. Amazing how the "open minded" liberals can very quickly become close minded to any point of view, no matter how factually documented, other than their own.
