New Orleans has been hit by another rash of violence this weekend. In the past 24 hours, there have been 8 shootings.
The shootings are occurring in areas that are away from the tourist areas.
In a press conference, two weeks ago, Chief Warren Riley said the City was deploying some methods that were confidential to reduce crime. However, he would not discuss those methods in fear that those secrets would be revealed and the criminals would not be deterred once they were armed with knowledge.
New Orleans is seeing more crime due to some of its former residents returning and due to drug trade. Some of the crime has been domestic, in nature. Part of the problem for the high return of the crime rate is the entire criminal justice system is in shambles.
Next Saturday, the City will hold a Crime summit. The purpose is to take a holistic approach of the problem but devise specific solutions. With eight shootings in 24 hours, New Orleans needs solutions, fast.
"....it is innate, but it is our home, what do you do?????"
Cut your losses and move to a civilized area. Or live with it.
How's that for tufflove?
I'm glad you got out and are smart enough to stay that way! Enjoy your retirement!
Houston, we have a problem.
But it certainly is not surprising, given the leadership that gets elected down there.
Your future is your own. If the city is declining, you are free to leave.
My husband has cancer, the move during the storm was bad enough, trying to find doctors to give him the treatments he needed, this is his home and he would like to spend what is left of his life here, how is that for tough love?
"Hey, I am glad all you Yahoos out there think this is a joke, try coming to this city and live!!!!! It is no joke, and many are leaving, as they do not see any changes coming in the new future.
I live here, right now my neighborhood is pretty safe, but like the saying goes, first they came for the jews, when will we be next?????"
Well, I am not particularly worried about this type of thing happening in Texas, because the honest citizens are too well -armed. Although Houston has seen an increase in violence -- mainly due to NOLA scum trying to behave the same way they did back home -- the problem should resolve itself soon, as the scum realize that Texas does not have the same "catch-and-release" policy towards criminals that NOLA does.
In fact, I suspect that is what is causing NOLA violence to spike -- the Katrina refugees that came to Houston to continue criminal careers are finding that they cannot, and are returning home. (Don't take this as a knock against the honest Katrina refugees that came to Texas to work. Those folks are finding a world of opportunity here and are doing well.)
But as for those in NOLA that are suffering? Look -- that is your back yard. You get the government you elect, and deserve the government you elect. Clean up your government, and the crime and violence will go away. If you cannot clean up your government, you have two choices: put up with the crime or leave.
NOLA got a lot of federal aid after Katrina and pissed most of it away. I am not really inclined to send any more money until I can be sure that most of it won't end up in the freezers of Louisiana politicians. Clean up the corruption. Then folks will be glad to help.
Clean up corruption, now that is really funny, did you happen to watch the reelection of Nagin, the baldheaded ape.
How do you clean up corruption, when you are a minority and how no power, none, nada, believe me I would not live here if I didn't have too, my home is Houston, and if and when anything happens to my husband, I am Texas bound. but have been here for thirty years, and believe me, I have had enough.
Chief Warren Riley is a joke also, in fact the whole NOPD is a joke.
LOL, gee, who woulda ever saw this coming?
Not me. Enough is enough. It's been a year, and I am sick and tired of hearing about NO, how hard it is to recover, they don't get enough federal help, crime waves, blah blah blah.
You don't hear the same stories from the other areas that were devastated by Katrina.
The people of NO reelected Nagin for God's sake. They get what they deserve. Change it, or leave it. But stop complaining.
You do not have to live there.
LOL!!!
"Not me. Enough is enough. It's been a year, and I am sick and tired of hearing about NO, how hard it is to recover, they don't get enough federal help, crime waves, blah blah blah."
There you have it, Amanda75. As you can see, my position is moderate compared to other Texans.
"Chief Warren Riley said the City was deploying some methods that were confidential to reduce crime. However, he would not discuss those methods in fear that those secrets would be revealed and the criminals would not be deterred once they were armed with knowledge."
let the New York Times disclose it..I want to know
well, I agree with most of you, but with my husband sick, I am really not able to leave, as he will not, the city is sick and was sick before Katrina, as I said the belly of the beast was out there for all to see, and that is not going to change in the future.
I am just sad.
Is he not ABLE to leave or just doesn't WANT to leave?
So nice to see New Orleans getting back to normal. < /sarcasm>
