Man Accused of Having Knife in Airport
ASSOCIATED PRESS
ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) - A man with a one-way ticket to Yemen attempted to board a plane with a knife hidden in a book, authorities said.
Mohammed Ghanem, 21, of Hamtramck, was jailed Saturday on $500,000 after being arraigned on a charge of possessing a weapon in the sterile area of an airport.
Ghanem was arrested Thursday at Detroit Metropolitan Airport after Transportation Security Administration officers detected the knife "artfully concealed" in the book, airport spokesman Michael Conway said.
Someone had carved out the inside of the book and placed the knife inside it, said Ghanem's attorney, Nabih Ayad.
"He said he didn't know where the knife came from," Ayad told the Detroit Free Press.
If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
Ghanem was born in Yemen, a republic bordering Saudi Arabia whose 18 million residents are primarily Muslim. He is now a legal permanent resident of the United States and was returning to Yemen to get married, Ayad said.
Ghanem works as a busboy and lives in Hamtramck with family members, but he had a one-way ticket to Yemen, authorities said.

Is there some good fake answers for that one if Christians want to fly?
What on Earth makes anyone think that a plane can still be hijacked with a knife or box-cutter? The passengers would NEVER permit it! They would know in no uncertain terms that either the hijacker would kill them by crashing the plane or the US military would. As soon as someone on the ground finds out the plane has been hijacked - within a very few minutes a squadron of US fighters would be screaming across the skies at Mach whatever to bring down the plane before the hijacker brings it down himself.
Looking for knives and box-cutters is ridiculous and a waste of time. Better to look for a middle eastern appearing man wearing Herman Munster shoes with a bomb wick sticking out of them and confiscate his cigarette lighter.
I see this on COPS a lot. Drugs in the person's pants and they don't have any idea how it got there. Obviously someone is just playing a dirty trick on this fine boy. Sure glad he was made a permanent resident of the U.S.
I hate when you go to Borders and buy a bestseller and it's all carved out with a dagger inside. It's such a nuisance.
We think alike. Didn't see your comment when I wrote mine above. LOL.
It does seem rather odd. How many busboys spend their vast fortunes of cash buying one way airline tickets to Yemen? I read elsewhere that the book was a phone book. As if someone is going to carry a phone book to read during the long flight? He would have to be stupid to not think that would not attract attention. This is so stupid that I am wondering if this is not so much a dry run as it is maybe an attempt to create a lot of "noise," as it were. Just a lot of weird things happening that don't make much sense and it gets the authorities distracted and tired. Maybe real attempts or dry runs get lost in the "noise" of all the weird happenings. This seems so dumb that I think it must be a decoy operation of some sort.
Wow!
Like, what are the chances?
This guy is a true hero of the stupid

Go figure.
That would be embarrassing.
By the time America wakes up to the suicide that is islamic immigration, we're going to be in the same boat as France today.
Hmmm. "Knife." "Sterile Area." "Suspected Terrorist."
Sounds like a winning combination to me.
A bunch of us run around with pretty big antennas on our cars.
When someone asks my buddy, "What do you receive on that?" he replies, "Orders."
