Ford should have been part of the consortium that built the next-generation hybrid drive system (this is the one formed by GM, BMW and DaimlerChrysler). As such, we'll be seeing highly-advanced hybrid drive vehicles from GM, BMW, Chrysler/Dodge and Mercedes-Benz by 2009 first.

Ford put the Prius hybrid engine into the Escape. They realized that they didn't know what they were doing with their own design. I own a V6 4x4 Escape. It's virtually identical to its Japanese sister model. I also have an F150 4x4. Most popular vehicle in America. They know what they are doing with that model.

I agree they should have joined with them or Toyota more closely on hybrid tech. But in their defense, they have designed and built a hybrid model. GM, BMW, and DaimlerChrysler still haven't.
