sadly true and embarrassing, but my intent was to point out that ND is not like Georgetown, Boston College, Marquette or other large Catholic universities that have abandoned their Catholicity altogether. The previous president of Notre Dame, Fr. "Monk" Malloy abandoned his religion in exchange for embracing the religion of multiculturalism. He allowed things like the VMonologues to become entrenched and to humiliate alums like Paul Hornung for telling the truth....awkwardly, but the truth nonetheless. I loathed the 18 years the Board of Trustees allowed Monk to survive, as did many others, including CSCs. I agree that Ave Maria would never have shown that awful play and while the new president at Notre Dame is feeling his way through things, he is still struggling with having to eliminate the "ways" that were allowed to exist under Malloy in a fashion not that dissimilar from G.W.Bush.
I have a son at Notre Dame right now and can assure you that the Catholic underpinnings are all there, prevalent and healthy, but remnants of a prior, misguided priest are still causing problems and that is disappointing. But in just two years, under Jenkins, things are much better.
