Did anyone else notice what just happened at the Notre Dame/Penn State game in South Bend?
As the university pastor attempted to deliver a prayer in rememberance of the 9-11 victims to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the event, it seemed hundreds of people went ape-s%*t, barking, booing, and making a generally obnoxious racket. One thug could even be heard to shout "you suck" as the priest finished up.
This was NOT three or four morons, and they were not quickly silenced. Anyone from S.B. know what the hell this was all about? An anti-war demonstration? I have no idea, but I work in South Bend, and there aren't a lot of potential muslim radicals around. Just a preponderance of Poles. Can't say if it was Irish Fans or Nittany Lions fans, but I can't believe it would be either.
Baffling.
"and i bet he stands at all the anthems now."
He might even be a moderator at Free Republic! People CAN turn their lives around;))
That sounds reasonable but NASCAR fans take their opening ceremonies very seriously. I do like your idea though. There is a new "NASCAR Nation" crowd starting to show up at the races so I don't think it will be very much longer before something like this happens. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.
Hopefully, someone who was at the game will show up here and fill us in. My guess is that a few protesters started a fuss during the prayer, and a large number of people booed the protesters.
Alot of people have been falling for this 9-11 conspiracy theory crap lately (as in--our government detonated the towers kind of crap)
Maybe it had something to do with that?
Here is another thought, though. The prayer was introduced as a prayer for the victims of 9-11 and for the universal desire for World Peace. Maybe we are reading this all wrong. Maybe the realistic people in the crowd were reacting to the "Prayer for World Peace". Just a thought.....
It's a shame that a significant proportion of the fans at college football games are drunken idiots with no life.
Back in the mid-eighties the ex and I went to a Penn State Notre Dame football game in Happy Valley. Boy, was it COLD and windy but the tailgating was awesome at least the parts I remember and I dont remember much of the eighties
.and Penn State beat the Fighting Irish.
The only chanting I heard that day was We are
..Penn State! We are
..Penn State!
But it was a long time ago and things might be different now.
My mother was from Harrisburg PA. Her ceramic Nittnay Lion held an honored place in our home and with nearly the same reverence as her statue of the Virgin and to her, Joe Pa was destined for sainthood. She was Catholic but she hated Notre Dame.
Some loyalties run thicker than blood and stronger than religion.
As a Marylander I cheer for the Terps, but my heart will always be with Joe Pa and the Nittnay Lions.
There once was an expression of exasperation: "Is nothing sacred?" The answer in post-clintonoid post-liberal 2006 is,
"Yes. Liberalism is sacred, and to ensure that it is we will
indoctrinate your children, control the media, and make sure
your neighbors/co-workers keep you in line."
Just look around.
Oh, and we can figure there are no incidents like this when
Islamic prayers are said before sports venues in Iran...
So true. My first two years I went to Holy Cross College in Notre Dame Ind. Now there we had almost all brothers teaching and they were true conservatives. Unfortunately we were considered Notre Dames ugly sister.
Ahhhh, but the ugly sister grows up and becomes the pretty one!
right!
I'm kidding. I'm a Pitt man who roots for JoePa all the time.
I suspect that the time is coming when the public will be so polarized that such actions will take place. The majority of Americans do not respect that kind of disruptive behavior. It has only been our indocrination into politically correct stances that have allowed such louts and swine and traitors to smear the public with their faces, their words, their actions. The time is coming, and I don't think it's far off.
I heard that too. Right as Fr. Jenkins started the prayer. I could not believe it. Who would boo during a prayer?
LOL........... your husband couldn't hear or see a thing ....... he was too busy grinding up those carrots and apples.
;-)
That expression still lives.
Naw, it was quite pronounced. My son, who is no longer at NDU, also did not hear it. But I did. Husband attended Penn State, he said they are very atheistic. Disgusting.
How'd you like Zipikowski's picking up that ball that was fumbled just now? YAH.
