Former first lady Nancy Reagan on Friday asked Virginia Democratic Senate candidate James Webb to not use a television commercial that shows former president Ronald Reagan praising Webb, his former Navy secretary.
In a letter faxed to Webb at 5 p.m., the chief of staff of the Reagan Library in California urged him to not use footage from a speech by the former president at the Naval Academy in 1985. Webb is trying to unseat Sen. George Allen (R) in November's election. The speech lauded Webb and his achievements.
"Using the president's name, image or likeness implies endorsement which is neither fair nor respectful of any candidate, certainly not after President Reagan's death," wrote Joanne Drake. "At the direction of Mrs. Reagan, please refrain."

This is no way for the former President's image to be used.
I understand the problem of the appearance of endorsement, but the other problem, in fairness, is that the President did praise the man on film. Why shouldn't a candidate be able to present it [though not appearing as an endorsement] as part of his resumé to the public?
Ah...I see that Webb has done a party switch. Dishonesty.
there were already four or five threads on this yesterday. Is there anything new in this one?
While Reagan may have endorsed Webb's achievements in 1985, Mrs. Reagan's concern is that Webb is using the footage to imply that the Gipper was endorsing him for the Senate. There is not practical way to differentiate between the two.

Webb is DESPICABLE for having that CLOWN stalking Allen.
National Review is reporting that Meese, Duberstein and others are piling on to support Nancy.
Webb has made a tactical error on this; Dems hate Reagan, so it can't help him with his base. Second, Webb previously endorsed Allen for the Senate, so paybacks may be Hell. Third, getting into a public spat with Nancy Reagan is a loser with independents and Republicans.
Webb had one Macaca blip; it's gone, and Schumer's gonna look elsewhere.
Pretty pathetic to see a bunch of Reagan hating commies glom onto his image just to fool a bunch of voters.
Nancy Reagan Tells Webb Not To Use Video Of Her Husband In Latest Ad
Webb not only made a tactical error of the things you mentioned, but he has forgotten it was Reagan who issued the 11th Commandment: "Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican." The Democrat Party is more liberal today than it was when Reagan could no longer tolerate their liberal policies and became a Republican. I believe Webb has shown a serious flaw in his character by running as a Democrat. He knew he couldn't get the nomination from Allen as a Republican, so he did the worst possible thing and showed what a greedy man will do....join the enemy! I'm sure there are some honorable Democrats, but they are not in the leadership of the Democrat Party!
Don't forget Webb's Jew-baiting (of course, now that we know George Allen has Jewish heritage from his maternal side, anything nasty Webb currently does in this campaign I'd consider as such).
Webb is seeming to be a nasty LITTLE man.
