War on Terror: Tales Of The See-No-Evil Left
IBD ^ | Sept. 8, 2006 | IBD

Declassified details of plots pried from high-value al-Qaida detainees should put to rest the left's silly notion that President Bush has been hyping the threat for political gain.

Detainees have confirmed that al-Qaida continues to work on operations against the U.S., a fact underscored most recently by the foiled airline plot in London. But don't tell that to war critics such as John Mueller, a political science professor at Ohio State University.

He argues in the latest issue of "Foreign Affairs" that the threat from Islamic terrorists "has been massively exaggerated" and that Bush has juiced the war to grab more power in the form of "massive eavesdropping and detention programs . . . that have led nowhere."

The professor is massively wrong. The programs have yielded clues that have saved American lives.

I thik the leftists know that terrorism is a real threat -- they just want to use it to their political purposes: If there is no attack, they claim that's because there is no threat, if there is an attack, they will claim it's Bush's fault, because he didn't protect us -- carefully avoiding letting people know that they have been working tirelessly to take away the effective tools used to protect us and foil attacks, such as interrogation of terrorists, listening to their phone calls, monitoring their financial transactions, to name just a few.

I think you're right. If the Dims gain power they will do a 180 and become champions of defense to solidify their power base. THey will launch military strikes and demand Pub support.

Never heard of this guy at OSU. But, the College of Arts and Sciences is filled with liberal losers who can't get a job in the private sector. One professor said "If they get rid of my position, I'll have to sell ice cream on The Oval!"

All you have to do is watch the garbage that Her Thighness keeps spewing in her efforts to move to the middle. She's about as Left as anyone, yet she purportedly supports the efforts in the Middle East.

She also supports each and every spending bill and tax increase that comes down the chute, but that's a different discussion.

At least, she has the express broom that runs direct to her DC and Chattaqua mansions.

From the article:

Besides the London operation, the U.S. and its partners have disrupted several serious plots since 9-11, including al-Qaida plots to attack inside the U.S. -- namely, ones targeting the West Coast, the Brooklyn Bridge and financial buildings on the East Coast.

More "huffing and puffing," Mueller harrumphs. Actual attacks have been sparse since 9-11, he says, noting that al-Qaida hasn't struck America in five years. Thus his facile conclusion: "There are no terrorists in the United States, and few have the means or the inclination to strike from abroad." ((((WHAT AN IDIOT!!)))

So let's bring home the troops, reassign FBI agents to bank robberies and stop fingerprinting and registering all those poor Arab and Muslim immigrants, he suggests. The war, if it can even be called that, is over.

Of course, the scholar's conclusion is not only demonstrably false -- evidenced just by the number of homegrown terror plots uncovered in recent months, from Los Angeles to Miami -- but also dangerously cavalier. Yet it's an attitude gaining traction among Democrats, along with their friends in academia and the media.

If put into policy, it could get people killed. It's foolishly complacent to assume there's no internal or external threat of terrorist attack here just because we haven't been attacked in five years.

Patience is one of al-Qaida's hallmarks. Five years is nothing in its scheme of things. It took it eight years to finish off the World Trade Center.

And it's not only in Iraq and Pakistan, but also right here, living among us. We have to get to it before it gets to us.

U.S. intelligence estimates that as many as 5,000 al-Qaida terrorists and supporters are in the U.S. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the 9-11 mastermind in custody, won't give up any of their whereabouts.

Authorities recovered from his possessions a notebook containing U.S. ZIP codes. He claims he was planning to use them to open new e-mail accounts. Uh-huh. The CIA suspects he's protecting operatives secreted inside America.

In 2003 and 2004, an operative was tasked by al-Qaida to case important government and tourist targets here. Also in 2003, al-Qaida sent a cell here by way of North Africa to gas the New York subway. The FBI is still looking for the team of men.

Detainees have told investigators that al-Qaida leaders plan to use new cells of second-generation immigrant Muslims who have lived in the U.S. and can blend in and not attract as much suspicion. They're being held in reserve for larger attacks.

One such Americanized operative, Adnan El-Shukrijumah, has reportedly been scouting potential targets in New York, Washington and Chicago. He's on the FBI's most wanted list.

Yet Mueller maintains Islamists aren't interested in attacking us. He says the administration is guilty of alarmism and sees "terrorists under the bed."

Well now, what a statement.
I must say I am amazed.
Such good news should be shared with world.
Mr. Mueller MUST be a special guest on all the
news shows on 9/11/06 and if he really has
said this, he must repeat it for all to hear.

This is really good news.

Now, if someone will tell the jihadis this good
news...

The left wants more attacks so that they can blame Bush. The left tries to use everything to increase their political power.
The left has no consistent principles except establish marxism by any means necessary.
