O can receive All blood types
No. Positive cannot donate blood (whole) to negative. (The reverse is possible.) Plasma is OK.
Prayers for Maria Bush's hubby.
Almost every blood bank will take donations to be designated in the name of someone and they work together with other blood banks across the country.
In other words, if your local blood bank has o- blood, they can ship it to your local blood bank or hospital where needed. They will accept a donation of the same type, and depending on their own area needs, other blood types. They then ship their already processed units while starting to process yours.
Keep in mind that while this is common procedure in many cities, it may not be true in yours.
Hope this helps.

I am also in the Atlanta area, and am also O-, and would also be more than happy to add a pint of mine, especially when we have another Freeper in the same area (wouldn't it be easier to coordinate sending the pints together?) I know how scary it is, I had to receive 2 pints in Alabama about 4 years ago because of an awful miscarriage. Luckily, there was plenty in supply, and I pray for the person who donated it, because he/she saved my life (both units were from the same person, must have been a frequent donor!) By all means let me know where to go to donate, in order to facilitate transport. I will be praying for him.
My mother nearly bled to death in the mid 1950s, she had the same type of blood. We lived in a small town, with a small hospital. They asked for blood over the radio and people with O- rushed to the hospital to help her. Luckily she survived and lived another 45 years.
I know that today they don't normally give a transfusion straight from one person to another. However, if she or the family signs a waiver of some sort, maybe the hospital will use their brains and hearts instead of cowering in fear of lawyers.
Darn, I have O+, wife has AB-, and kids are A+ and B. Otherwise I would donate some.
After reading this thread, Maria may be more confused than when she started, but at least it may bring up some points that havent been thought of.
Some freepers have it right.
It's not a great idea for him to recieve O+. That isnt a "thought" or a "guess", its the truth. THere was a poster on the first page that explained the potential risks if he does recieve it. It should be taken into consideration.
Whatever the decision, thoughts and prayers to Maria and her husband.

If you want on/off my prayer ping list, please let me know. All requests happily honored.
My husband has O- blood. He has what's called, baby blood. We are called all the time to donate.
Sorry, I just now saw this.
I have O+ and have done apheresis many times.
By the way, your husband can take O+ blood.
But O+'s cannot take O-.
To find out for sure, for yourself, call your blood bank.
They give out a little card that has all the blood info you need.
We personally, have not given to the Red Cross since 9/11,
but we have given to Life South for many, many years.
God bless you!
I am O and in the Memphis area. Unsure if negative or not. Please contact Maria for me!
Mr. Bush and his wife Maria are both in my prayers today.
I'd pony up and donate myself, except that I'm O+.
FWIW, I was O +
After receiving a bone marrow transplant, I am now O -
Cancer free for 14 + years.
Thanks for letting us know. I moved to Memphis last year but nobody in my family has that blood type.
St Jude's may have what he needs.
Prayers to Maria and her family. If there is anything at all I can do please let me know!
