Sounds to me that she was kidnapped and was going to be smuggled out of the country but once the news of who she was and that the US Military was looking for her they (her kidnappers) dumped her some place.

They probably got wind of some of our RSBD's(Really Scary Bad Dudes) coming to look for her.
