Nurses and Medics risk it anyway, but mechanics and fighting women give much unneeded exposure in the opinion of many.

Now if we could just get enough "He Men" to volunteer to take those the positions of the those female mechanics, truck drivers, etc. IIRC, she is a personnel officer, which was one of the first career fields open to women officers other than nursing/medical, well that and intelligence officer.

I used to hang out with a bunch of intell types, (meaning I was attached to their unit), and the story one told of a women targeteer (a subset of intell field) whose husband was killed in the SE Asian War Games of the '60s and early '70s, would curl your hair. "Vengeance is mine saith the Lord", but I think He worked through that "lady".

A point I make constantly, we have the largest pool of males ever, we have a small military compared to recent generations, but we can't get enough young men to enlist.

I can find more patriotism now than at any time in my life, yet I find little enthusiasm among young males to serve a hitch in the army or marines.

I don't think it is a lack of men willing to do the job, it is more about the equal rights stuff forcing certain positions and roles so women can be someone involved in combat.
Women do make excellent pilots by he way.
