ROBERTS: OK. So the wife says repeatedly, stop this. Turn off the camera. Do you think if you had stopped taping, the altercation could have been prevented? Did you push her too far?
MATTES: We would have been dead. They came -- she came with a gun. They came to bushwhack us. We didn't intend to see them. We were on private property of other people who had been harassed by them, had restraining orders against them.
She trespassed on private property to claim that we were interfering with her life. She invaded our personal space and then threatened us and then battered me bloody.
ROBERTS: So you figure if you didn't have the camera rolling that anything that transpired after that...
MATTES: It would have been...
ROBERTS: Yes.
MATTES: No one would be able to document what I've been attempting to document.
ROBERTS: Right.

Video of the assault can be seen at the below link.
He should have "cut and run!"
Has anyone ever been the victim of an overzealous reporter. They can be pretty obnoxious.
yes, but physical assualt on someone is against the law unless it is in the act of defense. A bully may be pissing you off, but that doesn't give you the right to beat the SH$t about of them
From what I saw, he looks like a typical limp-wristed, metro-sexual.
If it had been the Sulieman's property, then you may have a weak case.
The woman and her husband went to far.
But if the man was not engaged in real estate scams, why would he have a problem? Sounds like he belongs in prison, and check his green card.
Hmmm...the perp must be a major donor to the DNC
I did not know this. I had only seen the video, and was dismissing this as just another case of a Geraldo wannabe harassing someone into a dumb display of anger. However, if the above line in true, then it changes things a lot...
The reporter worked for a local Fox station. CNN has to discredit him at all costs, because Fox is kicking their butts all the way to China.
You should take a spelling "cource"
The reporter was not trespassing or a physical threat to this pig. He was doing the right thing, asking for the police when he was blind-sided by this pig.
No good guys in this drama.
Obnoxious reporter meets low life dirt bag.
OReilly last niught said he was legally here from Afghanistan. She is unknown. The San Diego police told Fox they don't ask those questions. Which means the SD jail must be full of illegals on minor offenses who should be deported, but they don't bother.
This reporter deserves a medal.
They showed restraint, kept their cool and got it on film.
He's definately got the perp locked up for assault and battery, and the bitch as well. The other convictions will follow.
The scumbag who attacked them was being investigated for identy theft and real estate scamming.
A few years ago in ATL we had a couple of reporters that worked for the same station in a feud. Hilarious! They fought over the helicopter, the stories, punching and slapping! The other stations had fun covering it.
This is not really germane to this thread, but yes I have. For a short time. The cameraman usually has a lot more sense than the reporter, and asking if the cameraman has salt and pepper while wearing a grin will, in my experience, result in their going elsewhere.
Yes, I saw the whole thing several times, and know the circumstances.
Even when a bystander came in to help, he ran away like a little girl.
Just because he is a reporter doesn't keep him from being a man.
I meant identity theft....
The scumbag's response to the reporter reminds me of the Clintonistas' response to "The Path to 9-11."
