DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. - After stepping out of his limousine and approaching the Northern players, President George W. Bush began trying to identify them.
As Bush moved down the row of players, he asked Northern manager Randy Morris, "Where is the big lefty?"
In the middle of the line of players, Kyle Carter stood waiting to meet the 43rd president. Like the other 10 players, Carter shook his hand.
"It was really exciting," said Carter, who set a Little League World Series record with four wins. "This is the best moment."
The 11 Northern players, coaches Morris and Richard Carter and a few other Northern representatives met with Bush at Dobbins Air Reserve Base on Thursday morning before the president departed on Air Force One.
Bush spent seven minutes with the Little League World Champions and signed hats for all the players and coaches. He also took a few pictures with the team, as did Gov. Sonny Perdue.
After meeting the pitching standout, the president inquired, "Where is the catcher?"

The president congratulated the team on its Little League World Series championship on the tarmac near Air Force One. Clockwise from left are Georgia Gov. After meeting the pitching standout, the president inquired, "Where is the catcher?"
Cody Walker, who hit the eventual game-winning, two-run home run against Japan in the World Championship game, had a quick conversation with the country's leader.
"He told me that he was a catcher when he played Little League," Walker said. "For him to recognize me, it is pretty unbelievable."
This meeting would have been unfathomable a few months ago, when the 11 boys were playing baseball at the Little League complex on Psalmond Road.
"It was pretty cool," Walker said. "A lot of people don't get to meet the president in person. It was an honor to get to shake his hand and talk to him for a few seconds."
AAWWWWWW, nice to start off with a feel good story about America's kids and America's President.
Thank you, makes you feel all roasty toasty inside :-)
Imagine a President John Kerry: "What's a catcher?"
Didn't Clinton meet with a championship softball league?
