Crist now wearing a softer mantle

TALLAHASSEE· Attorney General Charlie Crist has a lot of people to thank for winning the Republican nomination for governor. The first one could be Tom Gallagher.

A multi-million-dollar campaign against Crist waged by Gallagher, his rival for the GOP nomination, and other social conservatives gave Crist a buffer from attacks that he's too closely affiliated with the right wing of the Republican Party.

The blows from conservatives have softened Crist's inflexible-sounding "Chain-Gang Charlie" image, which he acquired by talking tough about criminals as a St. Petersburg state senator more than a decade ago. That image had threatened to get in the way of his wooing independents and other swing voters in his new fight with a political moderate, Jim Davis, the Democratic candidate for governor.

the state constitution prohibits an income tax.

I think this is just a hit piece.

Crist is a career politicial left over from decades of old FL political hacksterism. (see bob graham, lawton chiles, etc.)

I didn't vote for Crist in the primary & I'm sure not going to vote for him in the November election. I wonder if I can leave that position with no vote? Crist is for gay unions & pro illegals & that's all I needed to hear. I just can't hold my nose & vote for him just because he is a Republican. Any suggestions?

It is all about numbers my FRiend... we can not afford to hand Florida over the DEMs.... .I will vote for Crist because I think the REPUBLICAN legisture can control what gets to his desk.... Crist can not sign a bill that is not presented to him..... OTOH if we elect a Dem we have lost the war !..... the conservative agenda is larger than any single governor.. and the number of "R" Gov's vs the number of "D" Gov's have NATIONAL implications....

"It is all about numbers my FRiend... we can not afford to hand Florida over the DEMs"

A good decision, I think.

You need to get over it and support the GOP nominee.

I understand that you (we) can, because that's exactly what I intend to do. The ballot is not supposed to be invalidated if you choose not to vote for any candidate running for a certain position.

It's not going to happen. Talked to another indy this morning who left the gop. This is reality. I am going to stay on the Terri's Legacy threads so I don't disrupt what's left of Jeb's legacy.

I have had a number of private conversations with several conservative families.. and many have told me that they are just not able to vote for Crist.. and have even expressed a willingness to consider sitting out the election (BAD) or voting for Davis (even worse)...... Crist has a lot of bridges to build to get many grass root conservatives to come out and vote for him.... I have already publicly pledged my support for the bot Crist and Harris, both of whom I did NOT vote for in the primary... I encourage all Conservatives to see the big picture, and keep Florida a RED state, and change ONE MORE U.S. Senate seat from BLUE to RED

I will continue, slowly, to tell my family members that. Right now it is just too soon, they are still upset with the primary. I keep trying to remind them that NO ONE has their candidates win all the time. And that Harris won, so not all was lost.

I think the most my family members will do is sit out, they would NEVER vote for a Democrat. They could never get passed that killing babies thing. Anyway, tempers will cool down after some time and we will go from there.

I hope that you and other indy's can see the big picture.. this is issue is LARGER than Florida or Crist.. it is about giving POWER to the FAR LEFT... if we fail to keep Florida RED.. mark my words the FAR LEFT will see it as an endorsement of THEIR agenda... and we will be giving them the numbers and their talking points..

please understand the big picture... sitting out is NEG ONE for the REPUBLICAN... actually voting for the Dem is PLUS ONE for the FAR LEFT a net gain of TWO....... in other words, holding your nose and voting for the republican is NEG TWO for the FAR LEFT !!

I completely understand your point. But I also relate to those who just cannot bring themselves to vote for someone who is pro-abortion and pro-homosexual. They feel like they may as well vote for the Democrat if they are going to accept policy issues such as those.

November should be very interesting. I personally can't wait!

I have been able to convince a few conservatives to vote for the R as a protest against the FAR LEFT... some have said they just never viewed it that way... sometimes we have the priviledge of voting FOR someone we like.. and sometimes we must simply vote AGAINST someone who is unacceptable....

FRegards,
David

In todays modern political world it is no longer about "voting for the best candidate" regardless of party affiliation.... REAL Political POWER comes from the numbers period.. we, conservatives, that is, are so close to getting a REAL majority in this country.. it is so close we can almost taste it... then and only then will the world see America as truly conservative... I hate it when people say "Republicans have the majority in the U.S. Senate"... .this is NOT TRUE.... anyone who understand the U.S. Senate knows that it takes 60 SEATS to have a real majority... 59 is NOTHING....because it only takes 41 votes to effectively fillibuster, which the DEMs have used over and over and over again in the past 6 years...... If you really want to see something get done our NATIONAL CONSERVATIVE MOTTO going into NOVEMBER needs to be on the big picture.... SIXTY in 06' ... in addition the number of Republican Govs vs Democrat Govs also has huge national political influence and power.... We must not allow Florida to give the Dems a Gov seat and keep a Senate Seat that we can capture.......

He's not my favorite possible candidate, but I'll support him, and he will have my vote. Anything else is stupidity, at this point.

The nominee for guv is horrid.

I'm going to vote for Katherine Harris though.

If Florida was that important, the Fla GOP should have found someone that everyone could get behind instead of the sunbather.
