It is hard to believe that a nation that prides itself on equality and freedom of speech has not had a female solo anchor of a major network television evening newscast up until now. Tuesday, Katie Couric became the first for CBS. CBS wanted a new look, and they got it. As Walter Cronkite announced: This is the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric. She smiled and began with a simple: Hi, everyone. Im very happy to be with you tonight.
The spotlight that CBS has been waiting for has finally arrived. CBS network re-evaluation and revamping via focus groups has created a new news show. Why Couric, one may ask? And the answer: why not? In terms of qualifications, she is over-qualified. She has an interview résumé that includes presidents Gerald R. Ford, Jimmy Carter, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. John F. Kennedy, Jr. even gave Couric the first and last interviews of his life. She is also the longest-serving co-anchor of NBCs The Today Show and has proven that she is not afraid to fight for what she believes in. After the death of her husband Jay Monahan from colon cancer, she underwent a colonoscopy on The Today Show and created, according to researchers at the University of Michigan Health System and the University of Iowa, the Katie Couric Effect. In the July 14 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine, the group reported that colonoscopy rates nationwide jumped more than 20 percent in the days and months after Courics on-air test.

This is the moron film maker responsible for... 'Supersize me'... living only on MacDonalds chow for a month and 'surprisingly'... getting fat.
I don't know that an article from my college paper is worthy of FR's bandwidth. :)
Good God! Where's the Massive Spew Alert???
I was watching Charlie Rose late last night and he had the NY TIMES media critic on..I think it was the NYTIMES...anyhow...the guy said the broadcast was a failure and a snoozer, and would turn people off.
He said he'd never seen a tv network newscast with no news in it.
I can think of 2 women off the top of my head who should have gotten the job instead of Katie.
Both are liberals but have actually covered serious news.
Ann Curry and Meredith Vierra.
Liberal women will be the death of this nation.
LOL! But he is so full of wisdom......LOL!
If she has her way that would be 100 percent.
if you saw Couric last night, she was wearing so much make up that i thought I was watching Marilyn Manson.
Look, the way to deal with this "Couricfication" of the evening news is to ignore it.
Broadcast evening news has been dying for years, and planting a good-looking woman in the old anchor chair at CBS is not going to change that very strong trend.
All one had to do was watch Ms. Couric the other night. It was a dreadful broadcast; devoid of substance and chock full of "back of the book" features.
I will not watch it again.
...."the CBS Evening News, with Laura Ingraham"
When someone blows their own horn, and uses the "minority" flag as the excuse, it's pure ego-driven, non-accomplishment.
It's connections, politics, and preying on sympathetic support, rather than meritorious advancement. It's more of a setback in the push for equality, using the divisions instead of the additions.....
"The hard part of a newscast is getting people to understand why they should care about what we're reporting"---Katie Couric in Parade magazine, August 2006.
Condescending little b*!ch.
I watched because she had Pres. Bush on but she is very stiff and it feels really uncomfortable to watch. She seems uncomfortable doing it. Forced smile. I think she is going to bomb. Anyone else see it?
And once again, we can heartly appologize to the civilized world for anything coming out of Madison.
I didn't watch. I was doing something important...I was outside on the front porch smoking a Cohiba and drinking a Coors Light. 8-)
I MIGHT watch tonight for EL Rushbo.
MIGHT
There are those who would be willing to keep her from writing...
