Funny that you bring up abortion . . . the ones who perform them are the same people you say should make these "experimental" life-and-death decisions w/out a family member's input.

ER doctors are *highly* unlikely to ever perform an abortion, but if you want to lump all docs together, hey, I bet you never go to the doctor for anything, right?
They can only do this IF you're already dying and IF nothing else is working or can work. At that point, you have NOTHING left to lose.
