Bush doctrine on terror fails to convince public

· Poll shows rising anxiety in both US and Europe
· Iran now seen as country posing the gravest threat

Ewen MacAskill, diplomatic editor

The Guardian (UK)

The Bush administration's claim that Americans are now safer from terrorism has been undermined by a poll yesterday showing a significant jump in the number of Americans and Europeans concerned about Islamist extremism and other global threats. The survey, published days before the fifth anniversary of 9/11, is at odds with a Bush administration document on terrorism on Tuesday that insisted: "America is safer, but we are not yet safe."

The annual Transatlantic Trends survey, conducted in the US and 12 European countries, records that concern among Americans has risen from 72% last year to 79% this year, and among Europeans from 58% to 66%. The biggest jump in concern about Islamist fundamentalism is in the UK, up 22 points.

Concern is expressed in the poll on both sides of the Atlantic, not only about global terrorism and Islamist fundamentalism but the Iraq war, immigration, global warming, the Iraq conflict and confrontation with Iran.

Remember two things:

1. I didn't write this article, I just posted it.

2. This is the Guardian (UK), a leftist newspaper. They love to see Bush and failed in the same sentance.

Please let the next terror attack be at the headquarters of The Guardian.

This is the Guardian (UK), a leftist newspaper.

Calling The Guardian a "leftist newspaper" is like saying that Tiger Woods can occasionally be seen on golf courses.

How easy it is to be a Leftist these days. Simply scream your opinion as fact and manufacture what EVER you need out of whole cloth. Love the way they are not even within a shouting distance of a hint or a clue of reality in this piece.

Sorry I say any Poll cited by the Guardian is pure Socialist propaganda. What the sample? What are the questions asked. Given a "79% say" numbers pretty obvious they did NOT do anything even remotely looking like a serious poll.

As 10 people a serious polling question and their responses will come out in a bell curve. Some on each end bulk in the middle. When ever you see polling data like this that just happens to fall WAY to one side, and validates every Editorial position of the Junk Media outlet publishing it, you are seeing propaganda, not serious public opinion poll.

Transatlantic Trends, funded by bodies including the German Marshall Fund of the US, conducted phone interviews with 1,000 people in June in 13 countries: the US, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria.

1000 in 13 countries? AND no idea what the questions they asked are? Junk Poll.

Even a CBS poll released today has more Americans feeling safe than unsafe: "Fifty-four percent of Americans say they generally feel safe, but 46 percent say they feel somewhat uneasy or in danger."

Of course if you follow the link, you will see how CBS spins it into horrible news for Bush.

Who wouldn't be more concerned about terrorism now than 5 years ago? It has been in the news every day for the last 5 years. I'd rather be concerned about terrorism and having an Administration working to prevent it than being oblivious to terrorism and have an Administration doing nothing to prevent it.

This may be good news in that a poll reports on less
FELLING of security - in contradiction to "W" saying we
are safer. Two different subjects, conjoined by the
drive-by press. It should increase the votes for Conservatives.

. . . a poll yesterday showing a significant jump in the number of Americans and Europeans concerned about Islamist extremism and other global threats.

I believe this is good news. Maybe the mushy middle is waking up from their stupor after watching the Hezbo's and the break up of the UK airline bombers. A worried public will be less likely to vote for the foolish appeasers on the left

I am truly worried about the UK. Brit Hume had a segment on tonight where members of both the Labor and Conservative Parties stated that the new Prime Minister would have to find a way to show Britain's independence from America, but doing it a way that America can "live with". England may very well be on the verge of siege.

Without our strong binding ties, England will face hostility from the EU and every other Nation (with the exception of Israel, and the USA), with the muzzie nations increasing their aid to the domestic march towards an islamic England.

Yes, I heard that the Europeans were unhappy with the WOT, especially, Iraq. Of course they are unhappy, if we weren't fighting the terrorists in the Middle East, the terrorists would be concentrating their attacks on us at home. The Euro appeasers think that things were much calmer when the terrorists were concentrating on hitting the US.

The WOT is a multi-front war being fought against Iranian inspired and funded terrorism. We can't sit back and let them bring that war to our shores, ever again. So if the Euro weenies don't like it, too bad.

Nothing like a foreign reporter talking about what is going on here and the public's reaction to a speech Bush just gave today. How would anyone know what the public thought of the speech? We will not know for a few days. Typical liberal crap. Liberals really do have a superior complex and think we sheep are all stupid.

Well, the MSM's support for the WOT lasted all of about 2 weeks. By late Fall of '01 they were the 5th column. No wonder the public have turned on Bush. MSM = traitors, scum, vermin.

I don't even know anyone who does not support GWB's WOT and most say he ought to be tougher and deadlier.

I'm so sick and tired of hearing the dems say we aren't safer, or safe, but we haven't had an attack against us for five years. What part of NO ATTACK don't they understand??????

Let;s ignore the obvious truth that Iraq got out of hand largely because Europe failed to pitch in, as Bush expected they would, after Saddam feel. France and Germany prevented any unity of action and encouraged the insurgency.

I don't think the poll supports their conclusion.

The fact that people are more concerned or worried is part of why we are safer.

It encourages people to be vigilant. It encourages our public servants to continue their successful prevention efforts. It encourages enlistments to the armed forces.

The idea that psychic comfort is the measure of safety is absurd.

"concern among Americans has risen from 72% last year to 79% this year"

"Concern is expressed...not only about global terrorism and Islamist fundamentalism but...the Iraq conflict and confrontation with Iran."

What those dolts at The Guardian are too dumb to grasp is that this is great news for the Republicans! The American people are not about to entrust national security to that bunch of sociopaths and morons known as the Democrat Party--not in these dangerous times!

And note tagline!
