6 armed people holed up at high school in northeastern Arizona Six armed people were holed up Wednesday at a high school in northeastern Arizona, authorities said.
It was unclear whether the six were holding students hostage at Ganado High School or whether the six armed people were students.
A male was armed with a gun, while five females had knives, said Jim Benally, police chief for Window Rock, a nearby community.
Authorities said the incident began around mid-afternoon and that police sealed off the area around the school.

One of the things that got him in trouble was spending "Homeland Security" grant money to form SWAT teams on the Rez. It just doesn't get any weirder. There are a lot of "gangsta" wannabes around the bigger towns. Window Rock, Ganado and Chinle. The Nation just moved Meth from the "household product" category to the Dangerous Drug category a couple years ago.

The school was bringing some students out by bus, said Selena Manychildren, a spokeswoman for the emergency services department of the Navajo Nation, where the school is located. The students were headed to a nearby building,
It's not known how many students were inside the school.
About six parents were awaiting word at the Cornfield Chapter House, which is 15 miles from the high school.
Marilyn Begay, an office specialist at the house, was counseling concerned parents while worrying about her 16-year-old son, a student at Ganado High. Begay said her son usually arrives home at mid-afternoon by school bus. When he did not show up, a panicked Begay called another parent and heard about a possible hostage situation at the school.
Begay is unsure if her son is safe and said the incident should have school administrators rethinking campus security.
"I have brought this up before. They don't have enough security. It's pretty sad that our kids are not being watched. There's supposed to be security everywhere in the school building which I kind of requested."
In the meantime, Begay is hoping to hear news from the school or her 21-year-old daughter, who drove out to the scene.
