What I find amazing is that after yesterday's speech, I read several posts from freepers that were complaining that NO ONE would hear it...because of when it was...and what networks showed/did not show it...
NOW, today, we have the WH asking for the network time...and there are posts from freepers acting like it is a waste of time for them to do it...OR making fun of the WH for asking for this...
jeez louise...can't we even cut President Bush some slack on FR once in a while???
I agree, If the President wants press time on TV I say give him all the time he wants. We are at war after all.
This is what the President must contend with . . .
MCCAIN and GRAHAM SET TO OBSTRUCT THE PRESIDENT'S PLAN:
". . . Senate leaders were briefed on the legislative plan Tuesday night. It already has met resistance from lawmakers who say it would set a dangerous precedent.
Sen. John Warner (news, bio, voting record), chairman of the Armed Services Committee, and Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham have drafted a rival proposal. It would guarantee certain legal rights to defendants, including access to all evidence used against them.
In both military and civilian courts, a defendant's right to see evidence is viewed as indispensable to mounting an adequate defense.
"I think it's important that we stand by 200 years of legal precedents concerning classified information because the defendant should have a right to know what evidence is being used," said McCain, R-Ariz.
Another potential point of conflict is whether coerced testimony should be admissible. Administration officials have said allowing coerced testimony in some cases may be necessary, but McCain said the committee bill would ban it entirely."

LOL! I noticed that, too. Personally, I don't expect whatever he says today to be any big deal, but then, I'm wrong about most everything anyway...
At least do it in the evening when more are watching.
I don't know why my reaction at first was negative; it is not a bad idea to do this more often to try to get past the press filter.
It is still kind of odd they picked this subject to do it on, though.
