New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, the man who apologized for his chocolate city comments and who exhibited a complete failure of leadership and competence during Hurricane Katrina, has now had to apologize for remarks made in reference to Ground Zero in New York. As we near the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Nagin, in his vast judgment, criticized New York for not yet fixing the hole in the ground his reference to the site at which the World Trade Center once stood.
As reported in the Washington Times, Nagin, in an interview for the CBS program 60 Minutes, responded to criticism of the slow pace of recovery in New Orleans by saying, You guys in New York cant get a hole in the ground fixed, and its five years later.
The Times then quotes the chairman of the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. who said tremendous progress has been made on building the Freedom Tower, which will be a transportation hub and a memorial to the nearly 3,000 victims of the September 11 attack.
Once again, after removing his foot from his mouth, Nagin had to apologize for his comments and this is the person whom New Orleans residents voted to keep as mayor. As noted in the Boston Globe, Nagin, on a goodwill trip to New York this past weekend, said that he will never again refer to Ground Zero as a hole.
I want to say to all New Yorkers that I love New York City and have been here on many occasions, Nagin said during a press conference held Friday, less than two weeks before the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. We as New Orleanians and as New Yorkers understand what tragedy is all about and understand the difficulty of recovering from tragedy.
Nagin went on to describe Ground Zero as a sacred site thats currently in an undeveloped state.
Theres an old saying that you get what you pay for. That saying rings so true for the residents of New Orleans. Their tax dollars are paying for a leader who cant understand leadership. They are paying for a spokesman who should not open his mouth on the record. Perhaps one day, Nagin will just fade away. In the mean time, well watch as Nagin continues to embarass his city and his state. Its just a blessing hes not mayor of a major city in Florida.
At the risk of being called a racist, do blacks keep supporting such obvious morons merely because they don't want to appear to be letting white people tell them who their leaders should be? It's the only (warped) reasoning I can find, and fits with the suicidal rejection of studying as "acting white" I see in school kids.
Racist!
;^P
OK, now it's not funny anymore, sorry. ;)
LOL!
You're just being racist... (sarcasm off)...
Is it surprising to anyone that nagin got re-elected? I really pity the people of N.O. and i dont see the situation getting any better. What a waste of money.
As nutty and incompetent as he is, he does have a point re action in rebuilding the WTC.
It's a shame theat the wealthiest, most powerful country in the world that can build the Pentagon, in a swamp, in 18 months, 60 years ago, can't rebuild the WTC.
Any predictions when it will be rebuilt?

Biden is on the same par.
As a resident of Memphis, the answer is yes.
Mighty big talk for a man whose entire city is a hole in the ground, surrounded by the sea. Hey, Nagin, maybe you should see to ridding your Levee Boards of corrupt political looters and fix your own infrastructure first, huh?
Shhhh! To speak the truth is taboo...

If Nagin spent some time planning like they are doing in NY, he might have avoided some of the devastation.
Thanks pookie18 for posting that cartoon of Mayor Nagin. That's icing on the cake!!
I for one hope it will never be rebuilt. I hope they will, instead, build a memorial to the 9-11 attack on America, not just New York, and I hope it will not be a monstrosity that Islamofacists can target.
I think the Environmental Protection Agency should go down there and declare the Entire New Orlean's area that is under water a "Wetland" and must be protected against any manmade intrusion whatsoever.
With that thinking, the enemy has won.
