Yeah, that about sounds like the intellectual Feats of Strength a NASCAR fan would come up with.

And the bigotry comes out in an even juicier form! Thanks for handing me the win.

Either provide the Founders' writings I referred to, or go home.

Where's your answer to 547?

I direct my request in post 547 to you as well.

How about banning sales of Playboy magazine at your local 7/11 or attempting to force TV programs they dont like off the air (including pay cable) rather than just switching the channel? How about sticking their proverbial noses into the Schiavo case? How about preventing the exploration of embryonic stem cell research. Oh and how about forcing school systems in Kansas to teach that God created the world in a literal seven days and that evolution is a hoax and calling it science.

"This is just another great example of Christians attempting to use government to enforce their dogma."

As opposed to secularists enforcing their's.

Someone's values are always being imposed. Of course the situation was much easier and less confusing when there was a value concensus, which today there isn't and thus is precisely the reason public education should be ended.

The funny little Blue Laws comment is pretty funny, too. Oh, the horror!

How about us secular types pass a law that you cant ring church bells on Sunday mornings to avoid waking up those debaucherous folks who partied until six in the morning.

"You know, the "real, true" conservatives that FR seems to be flush with."

It's not the real true conservatives that hate her; it's the Bushbots who side w/the Bush brothers who tried to sabotage Harris at every turn. The real true conservatives support Katherine; the lemmings who follow their elitist Rockefeller Republican masters, don't.

It amazes me that people are more concerned about the "harm"(/sarcasm) done to students by a few minutes of prayer uttered at the beginning of the school day, than drugs and sex in the schools.

Arent you the same folks that go ballistic when a local school district allows teachrs to discusses the five principles of Islam in social studies or world history?

Actually, Dave, I well remember learning about the prophet Mohammed and Islam in history class in Catholic gradeshool. I can still vividly recall the picture that went with the lesson, Mohammed on horseback, sword in hand leading men into battle.

Nope, no one I know got upset then and no one I know gets upset about it now.

That's quite a bigoted accusation I'd say.

Then you've missed all the bigots on FR that have bitched about such teaching. Dont explain Islam which is constantly in the news but do teach "Intelligent Design".

My understanding is that people get upset when the teaching of Islam is permitted to be taught but not christianity in some public shools.

"Either provide the Founders' writings I referred to, or go home."

You want me to show that the Founders either wrote "We didn't mention God in the Constitution because we were afraid of fundies" or you get to declare that you "won"? Well, yes I cower in the shadow of your mental might. [/sarcasm]

If you can't see how ridiculous you sound, then I suggest you continue to watch cars drive in a circle for amusement. At least then you can delude yourself into the belief that you are an intellectual giant among your own kind.

Fundamental Christians like Katherine Harris are NOT conservatives.

No, I'm asking you to back up your assertion. Show me where any of the Founders wrote that they decided (as you assert) to specifically leave mention of a Creator out of the Constitution. Show me where any of them wrote anything that betrayed a fear of Christian participation in government.

If you can't see how ridiculous you sound, then I suggest you continue to watch cars drive in a circle for amusement. At least then you can delude yourself into the belief that you are an intellectual giant among your own kind.

Actually, I'm more of a football kind of guy...but I appreciate you're continuing to show your own lack of intellectual prowess by substituting bigoted anti-NASCAR rants for facts.

First, I believe that (at best) you're thinking of the case in California, where students were required to practice components of Islam for a school unit. That's a long way from teaching what the five pillars are. These kids were required to fast and pray to Allah. Would it be OK with you if they were required to recite the Lord's Prayer and go to confession to learn about Christianty, or be made to stand before the class and declare their is no God before they can learn about the life of a prominent atheist? Here's one of many articles on what went down in Cali.

Second, can you provide a case where Christians or any other group have opposed a school district teaching a "just the facts" course on Islam, where history and practice (such as the pillars) are discussed? I'm not aware of any number of Christians opposing the teaching of these sorts of things and would be glad to oppose them.

Don't you love the effort on FR lately to redefine conservatism so that Christians are excluded from the definition? I wonder what Washington, Madison and Lincoln would think about that? Actually, scratch that, I don't wonder at all, I'm pretty sure they'd think it was coo-coo for cocoa puffs.

The fact that the Constituion does not mention God is evidence that the Framers decided to leave mention of a Creator out of the Constitution.

Now for my next trick, I'll will provide evidence that I did not have eggs for breakfast.

The efforts of fundamental Christians to expand the powers of government by imposing legislative morality flies in the face of limited-government conservatism. I would be less suspicious of Christians if their entire agenda wasn't about turning my government into a theocracy. Now if you could set aside your social agenda, I would welcome your support of smaller government. If not, then maybe you and the other Fundies should go form your own party and stop trying to hijack ours.

BTW, Lincoln was not a conservative. He expanded and abused his authority, but he saved the Republic. He was a social liberal. He was a "Christian" but thoroughly rejected concepts like Hell and Original Sin and would probably be labeled a RINO by today's standards.
