Usually, that's what happens when a candidate "doesn't listen" to his or her "professional handlers" (sent over by the party) about how to cleverly waffle on tough political issues.

Exactly right. Political consultants are the bain of conservatism. They are always going after the mushy middle, claiming thats where the votes are, and advising that conservatives soften their positions.

It never occurs to them that the majority of all voters may prefer someone who is not soft and mushy. Once in office these softies keep their handlers and the handlers run the country. Bad policy.

"The out of Florida bashers have been comparing Harris to Keyes for weeks....pure bogus....no comparison."

I know. I've been lurking, and actually thought of your point myself. There are things I very much like about Keyes and things I don't. One of the things I don't like about Keyes is that he RUNS to RUN. Harris runs to WIN (and DOES). BIG difference. : )

But you are forgetting...

I'm not forgetting anything. I said they are a BARELY a southern state which recent election results bear out. Bush carried the other southern states, even Tennessee in 2000, by a much larger margin than he did Florida.

BTW, the party of the governor means nothing. Both NY and California have Republican govenors - by your definition both states must be conservative. GA just elected its first GOP govenor since reconstruction and it's been a conservative state forever.

Presently, Florida is BARELY leaning to the conservative side in statewide federal elections. The demographics of FL are drastically different than any other southern state with GA being the only state remotely similar at all.

But you are forgetting the gulf coast and the pan handel which is bigtime conservative

BTW, I'm not sure if you even read my post that you replied to. I specifically stated that both the gulf coast and the pan handle were conservative but in your post you act like I was unaware of that.

What exactly is her negative baggage, other than the Demoncrats and the drive-by-media hates her? Just curious.

There are plenty of people HERE who hate her. You know, the "real, true" conservatives that FR seems to be flush with.

Hey Howlin ... Just to make it clear to the faint-hearted persons here in florida:

In 2000, when every nation-wide democratic party wheel-horse, ward-heeler, and outright poltroon was driving a steamroller straight down her throat, backed up by the Flori-duh Supreme Court, Kathrine Harris stood her ground and did her job, come hell or high water. She didn't whine, bitch, or hold endless waffeling news conferences. She just stood there and did her job. Period.

Since then, she's been denigrated about her hair, makeup, clothes, taste, and her freakin' horsemanship, for cryin' out loud.

I didn't vote for the guy with the screeching "She cain't win" in his commercials, well, just because of that.

I didn't vote for the "Rear-Admiral, Lower Half" because, well, 'cause I was enlisted, and bet he got his flag from the Annapolis Protective Society on retirement.

I voted for her because whatever else comes down the line, this lady won't back up for anyone!

If we get another 6 years of "Zero" Nelson, it'll be because our transplanted upper-east coast "moderate" panty-waists in south Fl. were too elite to vote for a "conservative" Republican.

Twits.

You said - Try this, in the general election, more than just crazy fundementalist wingnuts have the opportunity to vote.

As one of those crazy fundamentalist wing nuts, I take exception to your post. I don't live in Fla, but I vote in both the primary and general elections - as every other Republian has the right and duty to. If you dont like us wingnuts running the party, get more of the rest of the repubs to vote. Don't trash us for voting in the primaries.

Have a friend that says the "best looking" always wins regardless of their political positions.

Ask your friend how history will judge President Goldwater.

actually, this Jesus freak is for limited government and not a theocracy. You might want to lay off the name calling. I am proud to be a Jesus freak or fundamentalist wing nut or any of the other names you wish to throw around, but your hostility is getting old.

I'm thinking that she is astride a borrowed horse with borrowed tack. You are quite right about the stirrups being the wrong length. She probably threw her blanket over some old plug for a walk around the ring to gather some applause.

Known in the trade as "campaigning" - seems many participate in such antics.

Great point. Nice to see some people judge candidates on the character in the person.

Count me as one who is proud to be a "Jesus freak" too.
If it wasn''t for us "Jesus freaks--the Pubbies would NOT stand ANY chance, in nearly any race!!

I also do not live in fl(but I have been there a good number of times, from Jacksonville to Ft. laud.), but I for one am PROUD of Kathy for stating something that MOST of use feel, but many just don't have the balls to say publicly.

She stood alone in 2000. She could have "given in"to the pagans that attacked her mercilessly, for weeks on end. But she did not. (Had she have done so--Gore would have been in charge on 9/11...perish the thought!!)

PLEASE, FL, don't make her stand alone this time!!!

I just think it would be nice to have a Senator who won't cave under pressure.

For a change....

>>There’s two things in life
That I really love:
That’s women and horses,
This I’m sure of.
So when I die,
Please tan my hide
And tool me into a saddle so fine.
And give me to a cowgirl
Who likes to ride,
So in the hereafter
I may rest
Between the two things
That I love best.
— Gary McMahan.

That is very good, very nice !

Now can someone here recite the lyrics to 'When a Man loves a Woman' ?

>>Good for her! She won the right to blow a lot of money being a sacrificial lamb. Now Bill Nelson can vacation in the Bahamas until November 8th and still win.<<

That is garbage !

If Nelson wants to keep his seat(and he probably will) he will have to earn it, no slacking off now . .

>>Good news for a solid conservative, and much maligned Republican Katherine Harris.
Maybe now the powers that be ---- stateGOP, Bush, Rove and Brother Jeb ---- will have a change of heart and back this good lady.

<<

Yes, President Ronald Reagan would have wanted all good Republicans and Conservatives to back Katherine Harris . .
